Re: Cant get out of my own way
I was at the trainers yesterday picking up my dog. Wanted to see what the e collar feels like so took it off of my dog and held it to my neck. Had the trainer shock the collar. Couldn’t feel anything and he kept working the intensity up until we got to like 4 or 5 before realizing he was hitting th...

Outstanding information and opportunity to learn. Free! Here was one from yesterday. Each day is saved available on their Face...

Re: Got a New Pup
You can't do that with your pup at just 19 weeks! You should let it run and then let it run some more. Let it chase stuff, develop her independence, chase deer and rabbits and butterflies, and she shouldn't come back to you unless SHE wants to, if she even does come back. You should have to go get ...

Seems your "No" is not working. Without consequences that would be normal. Like a kid who has never been spanked. I find something that does work. A pup jumping on you and biting is normal solicitation of play behavior and not necessarily an indication of trying to be Alpha at this stage of its deve...

Re: French Brittany pup help needed
Good advice already given. A pup that age tires quickly. I run my pups in places where they can go considerable distances in numerous directions without being in unreasonable danger. (can't remove all risk anywhere). WMAs where there are not nesting birds, hay meadows, pastures with no livestock pre...

Re: Signs your dog is over worked?
Excessive rapid panting is a key one. When it is hot out I work my dogs in areas with ponds they can jump into. Honey packets do nothing for heat exhaustion, or worse heat stroke. Only cooling the dog off addresses that.
Avoiding it in the first place is what you want to do.

Well I have learned my lesson. Next time someone asks for input about a breed I have hunted wild birds with all over NA for decades I will know better than to respond. Seems not even actual video of the dog hunting Chukar on the 5th day of trip is well received by some. Even when the breeder of the ...

That litter was all sold out before they were born. The Breeder is a good one. He uses a lot of genetics/dogs from my Dog's breeder and has for years. He has a bitch out of the same Sire of my dog in the video and a littermate sister to my dog's Dam. The Guy hunts all over the NW and SW annually. Up...

Garrison, All good and Thank You. Since it has become such a point of conversation that GWP actually did put in a couple of pretty full days back to back on days one and two of that trip. I agree and never said differently. Key being all day and 5 days in a row. The OP said "a few hours" not all day, nor did it say 5 days in a row. I drove for 2 days to get to Chukar country and had that one dog in my truck at the time. I did not run him all day because I wanted to have some dog left...

Re: Stamina Expectations in GWP vs PP
Brian Glock, I responded to your specific question as to PP vs GWPs. Does not seem anyone else has. I reread your post and it says your PP "would last a few hours" after which he became a "boot polisher". All of my GWPs would/will continue hunting as long as you have them on the ground. In my youth ...

Re: Stamina Expectations in GWP vs PP
Yes, I think you are likely to find a GWP that will have more endurance than what you described if you look at the right GWP breeders and litters. The Breeder of the dog in this video clip lives in Oregon and a key yardstick in the dogs he uses for breeding is how they perform on Chukars in the very...

11 weeks is very young. What you are seeing can easily change quickly as the pup develops. Assuming your pup's genetics are from dogs with good search odds are yours will too. I doubt you have anything to be concerned about and advise you to keep taking the puppy on walks as you are currently and le...

Garrison,
Looks like you put the right dog with the right trainer. 4 months working wild birds - can't get any better than that.
You have much to be excited about going into this coming season. Best of Luck with your young dog.

Re: Wirehair Pointing Griffons?
WPGs far too often have very poor coats. Soft, long, open, a nightmare to pick up burrs. Breeders of WPG commonly acknowledge and discuss this known deficiency. They are often a slow and close working dog. Many are very lackluster in their pointing style. They are a very square built dog and their c...

Re: Wirehair Pointing Griffons?
WPG have coats that is a very poor choice of breed for hunting quail in Central Florida. They do not handle heat well at all. Hearing that, I think you should get a well bred Vizsla as they lack nothing in the way of energy in the right lines and you already like their temperaments. Your current Viz...

Depends on what you want in your dog. I am well informed on WPGs and it is not a breed I will ever own. I am serious about hunting and want way more out of my dogs, including some style is why. I hunt with GWPs, like the one below. https://i.imgur.com/C5VYVDxl.jpg The average GWP or DD is a FAR bett...

Ckirsch, What you call "denigrating" I call stating a fact. What you call "mis-information" is in my view an informed opinion which differs in some respects from your own.
