New pup names and tips

I like a name that is 2 syllables and ends in a long vowel sound. Long enough for them the recognize it and the long vowel sound carries better if you have to call out to them at some distance. Imagine yourself calling to him from 75 yards. Ozlo or Ozzie would seem to carry better than Oscar. Just m...

Bird Numbers - Quilomene & WD

Chukar numbers seem up. Not sure about those particular areas

Fatherly Advice: At what age did you take your kids hunting?

Be safe, make it all about them, know how they react around guns. I started mine about that age and they still love it to this day. We have some great memories from those early years. You might ruin her I guess but other dads ruin it by waiting too long. I think you will know if it’s going well or n...

Garmin delta upland xc vs Dogtra 2702?

Thanks guys. I ended up getting the 2702. I really like it so far. Simple, affordable, and effective. The type of cover and dogs I hunt makes the gps collars largely unnecessary. Maybe some day I’ll change my mind and get on board with everyone else.

Garmin delta upland xc vs Dogtra 2702?

Will have 2 dogs this year for the first time so I need to upgrade my Ecollar. I would like to have a beeper ecollar combo. Most of the time the beeper won’t be used but if we get into a thick spot I would like to either hit the locate button and other times just turn the pointing beeper on from the...

First bird hunting road trip

Great advice, thanks! I never would have thought about a potty break at 50 miles.

Bird Report from Northern Montana

Headed to Montana for the first time this year. Going to pick up a puppy and make a hunt out of it so can’t really cancel at this point. Pheasants will be open by the time we make our trip out. Hopefully the pheasants fared a little better than sharpies and huns. These poor reports have me a little ...

First bird hunting road trip

I am taking my first bird hunting road trip this fall and looking for advice. A friend and I each have a puppy getting trained in Central Montana and we go early October to pick them up. We will have 3 hunters and my 8 year old shorthair in addition to the Brittany and wirehair puppies we pick up. T...

Synthetic, performance upland pants?

Found my favorite combo this year on a fluke. Columbia pants, synthetic. I bought them for golfing. Then throw chaps on top of that. Was a dynamite combo, I hunt at least 50% of my days in the PNW rain. I know it sounds dumb but it worked better than anything I have used before. What chaps do you p...
