I hunted whitetails 40 years ago. Shot 1 with the bow and 3 with the rifle. Started hunting pheasants with dogs and we kept finding dead deer-arrows sticking out -or guys in pickups on the road looking for their wounded deer. Helped 4 or 5 guys find their deer while we bird hunted. Wasnt legal then ...

Re: Training method comparison

If I understand the OP , just go on and try to train any 2 dogs in the seperate ways. You will learn plenty about both "systems". Yes , as a earlier reply mentioned more dogs , would offer more evidence of how the systems work.

Press on and keep us posted.

So I recently saw a litter of black and white gsp that had a thick coat. Not long haired but a coat more like labs. Guy said he had dna test and it came back gsp. I know in Weims their is a recessive gene that produces long hairs and a recessive gene that produces a thick coat. Anybody know of gsp w...

There are 2 options
Auto rise increases with barking
Set level of shock

I only asked about the wear duration as I wonder about having a seperate bark collar being a advantage?

I wouldnt leave a collar on for a solid week

In plain sight really wasnt about the dogs abillity or lack of abillity to "see" the dead bird. It was merely proof that I could witness this conundrum. Train in differant water like you do differant fields Rivers, ponds, sloughs and lakes..
Soft bottoms, gravel bottoms, vegatation of diff types, steep and gradual for both entrances/water depths.

In the field stop and water your dog as a calming moment. This also gives the judges a little break.

magic brush pile

I hope this hasnt been overly discussed already.
Seems simple enough,anyone use it?
I agree with retrieve means chaseing,so the steadiness factor is desireable.
Can one not gain the same thing by by steadying the dog at a released and shot bird which is returned to the dog?
