Re: Rats getting into pigeon trap
Free hanging is the only way I can think of. Need to use wire as rats would go up and down chain or rope.
Re: Trials
NAVHDA has what is called a Handlers Clinic where they have judges go over the rules and scoring. It really is a good learning session as many scenarios are discussed. A proficient dog and a second inexperienced dog usually run the na and ut tests so participants see what is actually going on and ev...

Barn cats , keep the rodent population down so rodents aren't attracting snakes. Cats also catch and kill the snakes. If you are going to have barn cats do make a little effort to keep them healthy. They also need some vaccinations .

There are some here who train for the German tests which include blood tracking. I would think they could help. Perhaps reask the question as help with getting started blood tracking ?
Good luck and let us know how it progresses.

The 550 has 6 settings on the dial but each has a high medium low. So there is 18 settings. If you watch any Perfection kennel videos they stress always constant not momentary.

The force fetch will help. Taking your dog out with others and throwing bumpers for the others and teasing him about it while you restraint him would probably get it done also. Make it exciting and the dog will want in on the fun.

Passed a big washer over the pipe 24" chain with a snap ,drove stake 18" into the ground and had a great single dog tie out.Or so I thought, couldn't keep my dog from getting excited and pullin...

It's a NATURAL ability test. They are not expecting a trained dog. This is where NAVHDA has really gone down hill. The NA test has gone from evaluating the natural ability of a dog to training for a prize 1. It is a real issue but what is the answer? Simple pass / fail ? I witnessed a 5 month old p...

The recall isn't a huge problem at most na tests. It is a good idea to work on recall and work with a group. You and the dog and 3 to 5 additional people in the field and even.older dogs aren't sure of what's happening.

Hope everyone who trials or tests reads this. Our dogs don't always react to a change in the program. As a example , we shuttle dogs in a box/kennel mounted on a utv to speed up our tracking test in navhda. A dog never having experienced this sometimes does not perform up to par.

Ray G you post some good info about Sires ability to pass on traits for multiple generations. My take on that is trainers, trialers, breeders, didn't stay with the lines thru the generations. A bigger running dog is fine on smaller areas if and that is IF he minds. A bigger running dog does not run past birds at 50 yards just to get to 300 to start hunting. Reba has become a very solid hunting dog, plows thru cover and tracks, trails runners and downed birds.GLM Gray LivesMatter
