Re: Recommendations for a Semi-automatic shotgun
I went with the Beretta A300 Outlander with a ture timber DRT finish. I used it for nearly everything last year. My other shotguns probably feel neglected.

Re: Mut Identification
Lab X GSP? I've see some undocked tails on GSPs and weims. They all curled like that and were by and large pretty whippy. Well that answers that question. I was told that she is a GSP/Lab mix at the shelter. I see the GSP in her behavior and build, but couldn't figure out the tail. She hunts so tha...

I got this pup (Hazel) from a rescue shelter a year ago and I wanted to see what all you experts thought on what breeds she is mixed with. I wont tell you what the shelter told me (yet). She is 1.5 years old and weighs 65 pounds. I have my guesses, but the one thing that throws me off is her curled ...

Buying birds in SE Kansas
Does anyone know where I can buy some pigeons, quail or any birds for training in SE Kansas or NE Oklahoma.
Is there a good way to trap pigeons flying around town?

Retrieval issues
I have a 7(ish) month old GSP/Lab that i'm having some trouble getting to retrieve. When I throw a toy for her to retrieve she usually runs to it and lays down to chew on it or runs to it, picks it up and runs a short distance and lays down. She loves to carry things around the yard in her mouth (st...

Re: Recommendations for a Semi-automatic shotgun
In that price range, I would say be very careful. Some lower cost Auto loaders can be problematic in the vigor's associated with duck hunting. When I started waterfowl hunting, many years ago, I purchased a Remington 870 (pump). Learning to 'pump' between shots, actually made me a better shot as it...

Re: Recommendations for a Semi-automatic shotgun
Yes, 12 gauge. Does not have to be 3.5", and i'm trying to stay under $750. Something cheap, then if i really get into it i'll eventually buy a better gun.
I'm an upland/dove hunter but i'd like to see what duck hunting is all about.

Recommendations for a Semi-automatic shotgun
Looking for some input on a semi-automatic shotgun to use for duck hunting. I'd like to find one at that is inexpensive with a synthetic stock since it will likely be used near water. I've never been a duck hunter but I think i'm going to start this year. what would you all suggest for someone to st...

Re: Additional foods for a pup
Thanks, that's a lot of good information. I have a 5 month old GSP/Lab pup. Shes kind of skinny in my opinion, and it seems like she gets tired quickly when I have her running around in the yard (Large yard and its hot outside). I just want to make sure shes getting everything she needs and more whi...

Additional foods for a pup
What kinds of additional foods other than dog food (if any) are you all adding to your puppies diet? I've heard of people giving their pups eggs, cottage cheese, etc. What other foods are helpful for a young dog?

Re: GSP mix
That's her '"I'm weak from hunger. Feed me a biscuit" look. Pretty cute dog! A new dog is always a new adventure.. That's probably exactly what she was thinking. When she was sent to the animal shelter she had been running around in the country for a while and was very skinny. Now she would eat all...

I'm considering adopting a 4-5 month old German shorthair and lab (probably) mix puppy from the animal shelter. What are your opinions on turning it into a bird dog? Pheasant, quail, dove etc.
