Famous Springers

Sire Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Do you also have dogs and or pups out of these breedings as well?? That is the breeding my pup came from. Her paperwork showed up yesterday https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190925/c0dad8cbff227aafe7d4c4df7b759d0f.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Famous Springers

Field Springers have their own web site. You can go to https://essft.com/ which chronicles field trial results I looked over there and the only stuff I was finding was it’s name in other pedigrees. I did find this which was interesting. https://englishspringerspaniel.pedigreedatabaseonline.com/en/K...

Famous Springers

I recently acquired a springer pup. In the pedigree, I found a dog named Kettlestang Comet. After a bit of research, I found that this dog had quite a reputation. It produced around 20 champions out of 300-400 offspring. I’m new to the springer world, what are some other lines to look for? And where...

Re: Training method comparison

Don't let it puzzle you Bill, it's not a correct assessment. We train for HUNTING and the hunt tests are the icing on the cake. A competetive hunt test dog makes a superb hunting dog. They are obedient, steady to shot and fall and handle like a dream. All will go to the field and quarter for pheasa...

Re: Training method comparison

I would be interested to see the results of a few British bred lab pups sent over to America to be trained in the usual American ways for field trials ,when compared to the opposite of this …. a few American bred lab pups sent over here to be trained by good trainers for trials here. Bill T. I thin...

Re: Training method comparison

In order to do a real study, you need a large sample and two puppies isn't enough to reliably compare results. Another thought, are the two methods you want to try actual laid out methods with a step by step program, or are they general philosophies about training like ecollar/no ecollar? The latte...

Re: Training method comparison

Not sure I understand what you're asking. Do you want to know if someone can use one method on one dog, and the other method on a different dog? Sure, why not? It would be a good way to figure out a method that the trainer enjoys using. Or are you more after a comparison to how dogs respond to the ...

Training method comparison

Hypothetical situation: Say you were an amateur dog trainer with moderate skill. Maybe you’ve trained a hunting dog or two, maybe even have some experience in with low level hunt test. In other words, not a total rookie but your not a seasoned dog trainer either. Let’s say you are about to get anoth...

Re: Certification for Dog Obedience

IMO Dog Training is results based. Most trainers get business via referrals. I agree with steve007. If you want credentials, start passing obedience tests. It’s going to be a less money than “online” certificate and you can participate with any dog. No conformation needed. Once the dog gets their pa...

Re: Rattle snakes and a pup

Rattlesnake avoidance training, done right, includes teaching the dog to avoid the scent of the snake as well as the sight and sound, so that rattling is not the only cue the dog will react to. I think this the correct answer. By all means take every necessary precaution but at the end of the day a...

Re: Quail pen/Johnny house

Alright after research I like the looks of a quail house from Lone Star Quail Houses. It seems like it’s the easiest to use. Probably build it myself as opposed to paying the price they’re asking 1200 plus 300 shipping. They’re on Facebook and YouTube with a simple search. Sent from my iPhone using ...

Re: Oral flea and tick medications?

My vet told me the biggest concern with the oral meds is the risk of seizures. That’s the bad news, the good news is they’re generally avoidable. The seizures are caused by an overdose. Too much medication for the amount of dog. My dog rides the along the line between dosages at +/-50 lbs. he wants ...

Awesome video! When are you applying pressure via the collar? On the flush and release on the sit or failure to sit on the flush/whistle?

Re: Retrieve Issues

You’re probably dealing with teething issues. Retriever games should be for fun only until adult teeth are in. Start in a hallway. Toss something soft, tennis balls are my go to. Then build in layers. It’s should be a game at this stage with no pressure involved. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Quail pen/Johnny house

Alright I’m a total fish out of water here. Currently reading Spaniel Training by Todd Agnew. In which he advocates keeping quail and he flight conditions them by “training” them to return to the pen with food and water and he releases 20 or so a day five days a week for his dogs to get plenty bird ...

Re: Let’s talk about registration

FMJ - I hunt and trial behind pointers...FDSB American Field bred pointers. They are, of course, not without some genetic issues...no breed is. However, most of those issues are unrelated to performance. The reason for that is quite simple. Pointers are bred for one purpose...to seek and find birds...

Re: Let’s talk about registration

I know some Field bred Springer breeders also. Springers are getting on the high priced end of the scale. Pine Shadows In Minnesota is one of the largest breeders in the USA. They have been breeding Springers for 60+ years. Their pups are expensive and their waiting lit is long. But their web site ...

Re: Let’s talk about registration

Are Boykins not a relatively new akc registrable breed? If I were looking for a working dog I would stay away from akc breeders and find one who registers with another organization. Yes they’re a fairly “new” breed. I found this particular breeder through the Boykin spaniel society which the dog wo...

Fishmongerjoe; I hear you loud and clear. I Think your odds of getting a healthy dog improve greatly by going with dogs that have been x rayed for several generations. It is a crap shoot and not perfect. But it is the best we have. Nobody can guarantee that your pup won't get a genetic disease. I do...

Re: Let’s talk about registration

Why pick on the Flabrador? You don’t get to be the most popular dog for 28 years in a row by rolling out a bad product. The proof is in their market share and it’s undeniable. Most issues that I see in labs are human related. Whether it be poor diet and exercise, obedience issues, or trying to breed...

Re: Let’s talk about registration

I don’t think field trials are the end all for whether a dog should be deemed eligible for breeding. In fact I’d say health is far more desirable end to breed towards. Field trial dogs can culture undesirable genes the same way conformation breeders and backyard breeders do. Hunters don’t want some ...

Let’s talk about registration

I understand the difference between full and limited registration. I’m curious about how breeders go about this. Do you generally just hand out limited registration? When, if ever will you sign over full registration? If you do, do you demand extra money or a potential puppy? Or if the dog and owner...

Hello from the 1st State

Hi I’m Joe. I’m 41 years old from Lower Delaware. I’ve been a waterfowl hunter off and on for 20 years or so. As you can probably tell by my name, I’m a fishmonger by trade. If you don’t know what is that is, I’m your local butcher, but for fish instead of meat. The gift and the curse of my line of ...
