bobman, i really have a hard time exlaining it but this dog is a bad dog and i guess i want to find out what made her that way and if its correctible If bad dog means hard mouthed in his mind then I guess you are right but I was just wondering if the dog has some other behavior problem as well. If ...

I think GH has some good questions. I don't really understand what is meant by "Bad dog" either. A truly hard mouthed dog is going to be hard to change, I could not really change it in my shorthairs mentioned above and I'm an experienced bird dog man. Thumper if you can give some specific things the...

thumper we aren't trying to discourage you from hunting your dog theres plenty of non hunting breeds that do fine hunting, I had a couple when I was akid a that were excelent pheasant and rabbit dogs. All dogs are predators and most will hunt if given a chance. You stated you don't intend to hunt it...

Pointers are great house dogs but they (really all bird dogs) are very high energy dogs, if you don't give them suffcient daily exercise their energy will turn into destructive actions. Other than that they are easy to train and great friends. teach it basic obedience, try and expose it to birds and...

why
forcebreaking an autrailian shepard that you never intend to hunt with is a complete waste of time and unecessary stress on your dog. Save your money purchase a good well bred dog of whatever gun dog breeding and type you want, teach it basic obedieance and take it hunting for a year then if its nat...

agree I think the advent of videos while great for teaching people how to train dogs have a down side. I think they give the wrong impression to many young guys, thats theres a specific timeline from pup to adult dog and so they end up worrying that their pup isn't developing fast enough. I have had...

Surragator
http://www.quailrestoration.com/# I posted this in another thread but wondered have any of you had actaul experience with this product. The wild quail pop in Georgia is pitiful compared to even 20 years ago and I've been considering trying this thing. Its pretty expensive but if it works as claimed...

quail restoration
http://www.quailrestoration.com/#
James if you can afford one this would probably be a good unit I am considering one myself. IF two or three guys went in on one it could be a real nice idea
I've never used one but it got some good reviews on Upland Journal

this time of year with quail you have to keep all the males on one side and all the females on the other side of the recall pen or they will pair up and go off. Frankly with a year old dog I would build a pigeon coop ( get a book and raise homers) and forget quail. Where do you live, are there any w...

yeah Don I agree with those points as well. James you have to train the quail to recall first before you start training dogs with them just let a few out at a time and don't flush them. Just walk away and let them figure out how to go back in the recall box. DO that daily for a week or so until they...

new guy here been lurking for awhile
I let little pups around penned quail but a year old dog will probably catch and eat them, pigeons make better training birds for most guys because they are much stronger flyers. Either way birds are good for bird dogs. I suscribe to the yard traing methods for OB, whoa ect I don't do that around bi...
