Re: New Gun question?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The 500 Mossy fits that saying perfectly. I ain't a big fan of them cheap imported doubles.

Re: Sears Semiauto 16 gauge

High Standard made several different shotguns for Sears, as did Winchester, Mossberg and others. At least in later years some were imports too. Most had a Sears name also, either Ted Williams or J. C. Higgins, and some just Sears or Sears and Roebuck. Same with rifles, some were even pre 64 Winchest...

Re: Sears Semiauto 16 gauge

Highstandard, Savage, Mossberg and maybe others made guns for Sears also. It may all depend on the exact model. Sometimes the ones with a Sears trademark will bring a little less than the ones that carry only the makers marks. Seldom do they bring more, but, it all depends on who wants it.

Re: Begginer Hunter?

Glad to meet another French Brittany hunter. As for a gun, I'd suggest you get something made by a major name brand, such as Remington, Winchester, Browning, Mossberg, Ithaca or Savage. Now they don't have to always carry those names, because those makers made guns for companies such as Sears, Wards...

Re: Charles Daly Shotguns

Charles Daly and the company that owned them is out of business. Over the last several years they did import some pretty good guns. However if you buy one now and ever need any parts for it, you may just need to make a floor lamp out of it. It might make a darn good looking floor lamp though. If the...

Re: New Gun question?

There are lots of used pump guns out there, many are 50 to 75 years old and still very good guns. I don't think that 50 years from now people will be talking about the good old O/U they bought in 2000 something for $500. Those Eastern European guns may shoot ok out of the box, and a few of them even...

Re: Best 2 3/4" 20 guage load

There is no best shell for every gun. Each gun handles shell differently. You need to shoot some paper and see which one your Winchester handles best. It may not be most expensive or highest power ones. What you don't want is something that has holes in the pattern it throws.

The 3 S solution works well for most all predators.

Re: What type of shotgun are you using for your bird hunts?

I shoot a Remington 1100 in 28 gauge most of the time throwing 1 oz. of little round pellets, but once in a while I will feel the need for an extra 3/16 oz. and I'll switch to a Browning B80 12 gauge. I don't like to carry any more weight than I have too.

I had one for over 30 years. Let it go about 3 years ago, when a friend wanted to get one. He took over mine so to speak. Was visited 2 time, both times they called a week or so before. They found a couple cases where I had lost a yellow sheet, but it was really a nonissue. In most cases WalMart sel...

I load my own 28 ga. shells. Use 15/16 oz of #6 mostly. If just quail I'll use #8 shot. But for those 75 to 100 yard shots I like 0 buck shot LOL

The little .22 sure has it's place. I have one in each vehicle that I drive. They also fit in any pocket undetected. I'm not comfortable that they are really enough when you want and need a real CCW though. But they are sure better than nothing in that case, and they can come in quite handy for othe...

The "won't go off" part is BS. But, I would take the .357mag over a .40 hands down. If you ever have to use the gun, you want the first shot to do the job and that is where you are far better off in my opinion with the Ruger, in this case over the Glock. If you want to make a bunch of bangs, because...

I chose the S&W model 360 over all the autos. I want the first shot to be all that is necessary and I trust the .357 to take care of that far better than the .9's or .40's or even the .45's. I don't expect to impress anyone with the number of shots I'm able to touch off, but rather the job done by t...

You can always use 1 oz. loads in the 28 if you need to. Of course you can use 3 inch loads in a 20 ga. if you feel the need. Personally I'll take a 28 over a 20 for any upland hunting, but then I do some reloading too that helps.
