I start force FF when they are about 5-7 months, depending on if they are teething. I like to avoid any retrieving to make sure they don't hurt their teeth. Usually 6mo is prime time to start.

Re: New challenge

I have been training retrievers for a while now and love it. I have just received a phone call from someone who knows that I train gundogs on the side and wants me to train his wire hair. I've never trained a pointer and I am assuming that once past obedience it is a totally different game. Any adv...

I agree with all of these suggestions. I'm no pro but I have just finished training 4 labs and a few had this problem as well. Sometimes it takes making a fool out of yourself to get the dog to come. Once the dog picks up th bumper turn and run. The pup will want to play and chase after you. While r...

It all depends on the dog but it doesn't hurt to give it a try. Just make sure that the dog is friendly and happy. I just got an 8 month old that had little to no training as she is a little firecracker that has come along nicely!!

Try putting a light leather glove on, say fetch, tilt your hand to the side, and have him hold your gloved hand. If he starts to bite too hard, verbally yell "Ouch"!. That also can work. I agree with the gloved hand. This helps you judge how hard the dog is actually biting. make sure you leave your...

Stevens 311

I'd go with a Stevens 311 Model E. I just sold my 311A for this one to have a longer barrell but both are built solid for the money. They are not too light or too heavy. I would go with the model E because of the checkering on the stock adds character. You can get them in 28" or 30". If you do look ...

I inherited a marlin 30-30 from my grandpa. I had heard stories that it couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. That wasn't much of an exageration.
