My best luck has been w/ 1 oz. loads of #6 shot. Try to shoot the forward part of the bird. Stop at 30 yds going away and 35 yds broadside and you will humanely dispatch wild birds. I have been using modified choke and despite the naysayers that say 3/4 oz loads are superior, I assure you that 1 oz....

I was looking at gunbroker.com and there is a Tristar 28 gauge semi auto listed for under $500 new. It has a 26" barrel. I have found that barrel length bothers children and women as much as length of pull. A 28 gauge is remarkably effective and has virtually no recoil in a semi-auto. There is no ne...

I would be careful around fed catfish ponds. Early Summer and Fall harvests seem to coincide with algae blooms in these waters and they are already high in nitrates. In some respects a catfish pond is kind of like a feedlot. You feed the animals and they produce nitrates. I've had some bad experienc...

A bigger entry hole means more possums, housecats and rabbits. I would give them a landing ledge up above for them to escape. I would check the johnny every morning. Just a thought. A quail funnel is 2 1/8 at the narrow end. I don't know what it would be for a chukar.

You're doing the right thing. Don't run out more than half of them at a time. They will build strength very quickly and you will have a lot of fun with them. They may never develop a fear of you, but they will have a great natural fear of a dog. You are in for a good time.

I don't think you need shotgun shells to pheasant hunt Kansas. The bird situation there is a lot more serious than people realize.
