Re: Hide away Kennels

Look for a NAVHDA chapter or other bird dog club in your area and join. There should be lots of people willing to help you with your new pointing dog.

Re: Dog Den 2

Judy, I have 3 of the dog den 2s and 2 of the barrel type, they are all inside my kennel. I have had them a few years with no issues. If you ever get over to Greene again you can take a look at them.

Grouse hunting isn't bad here, not like the upper midwest, but I can walk out my backdoor and be hunting. Also some good woodcock hunting. We have thought about Arizona as I have family out there, a little concerened about the water situation there in the future as so many people are moving there. W...

Whats The Best Warm State For a Bird Hunter

Turning 59 this year and starting to think about where we want to retire to. We have lived our whole lives in upstate New York, and my wife is tired of the winters. Therefore we need a warmer climate for us and the shorthairs, but would like some where that is retirement freindly but still has some ...

I put in a fence last summer and my youngest dog was 4 months old. With the pup we set the colar to just beep with no shock for the first week or two of training, then the collar was set at the lowest level of stimulation. We had no problems and the pup cought on faster than one of my older dogs. My...

I second what jtsgsp said. I have trained with an e-collar for several years, my wife convinced me to put in an invisable fence last summer, it was one of the best things I have done. Wish we had done it years ago as the dogs are much hapier and are getting way more exersise. There has been no probl...

I have seen a few at NAVHDA events, all that I have seen have been about the same size as smooth coats with a soft temperment but not any softer than the smooths.

Once I get the formula from ohoigsp I am going to war with watever is out there. But I will probably build a new fully enclosed loft for the new birds I will need to get in the spring. Think I will try the loft on the Red Rose site, this will be my third loft but I hope the last.

Pigeon Disaster

I have kept a small number of pigeons to use for dog training for over 20 years. I had a small loft that I built from plans from Scotts Kennels. This worked ok but on several ocasions (usualy late winter) I would have a weasel get in and kill all my birds. I tried leaving the bobs up during the wint...

Thanks

Stumpy thanks for the info, I thought I would get a few more responces. I don't like the fact that you say there is no wild bird hunting. Here in NY I only have grouse and woodcock but can go out my back door and am in covers.

I had a Hidden Dog Frnce installed about a month ago, we inclosed about 3 acres going around our house and the kennel building, but not letting the dogs near my barn that houses training birds. We have 4 GSPs ages 12, 6. 2 years and one 4 month old. The only problem we had was with the 2 year old ma...

No mater how hard you screen it can still be a crap shoot. In the past I placed a dog with a couple that I felt would be great and do lots with the pup, they turned out to be duds and did very little with the dog. Then there was the one I wasn't real sure about but turned out to be one of the best t...

Not many want male pups?

Have GSP pups listed on the dog for sale board. All my females were sold very quickly but still have 2 males left. Looking at most of the other threads I see that almost everyone else also sold thier females but still have males available. Most times we have had litters this has been the trend, but ...

Dog going in crate

These are all good responses, but if she continues to pee in her crate have her checked by your vet. We had this problem with a pup several years ago and it turned out she had a blader infection. Cleared up the in fection and solved the problem
