North Texas Info

I just graduated with an MBA and relocated to North Texas. I am currently living in Plano and trying to figure out where and how to get the dog a good workout. If anybody could lend some advice on places it is okay to run a dog off leash or play fetch in a lake or river I would really appriciate it....

Re: Touching a dog while on point?

So I touch and talk to the dog at times. I especially did this when she was younger and working on planted pigeons. 95% of the training I do is chasing wild birds and I believe they do more than I can anyway, we only plant birds a time or two during the nesting period. When I touch her it is to let ...

The whole thing really surprised me but it all worked out in the end. We had a great season last year and I never had to walk to get my birds as they were delivered to hand. She even had two retrieves on chukars I thought I had missed.

My pup had less than stellar retrieving interests until I started to Force Fetch her at about 18 months. Then it was like a light turned on and I never really finished the training as she got way into retrieving and has done great ever since.

Congrats on your FBs. I love mine to death. My biggest complaint about my pup is her pads. We hunt chukar a bit during the season and if she ever goes on back to back hunts she needs boots on the second day. As I watched the video I posted I remembered how great an area it was and all the birds we found in the off season. This last Saturday I decided to hunt it for the first time and took a limit of chukars out of one of the ridges in 3 hours. That is a pretty big deal out here in Utah.
