Set out the decoys and was limited in 45 minutes opening morning. Hunted another field this evening and took me 2 hours to limit. Just got through eating dove and jalapeno poppers, mmmmm

Re: How do you hunt doves?

Here in Idaho I scout freshly harvested grain fields for a few days before season and see which ones the birds are feeding in. Their prime activity time is the first couple hours of daylight and the best time is from about 4 till 5:30 pm. We set up a Mojo dove decoy and a couple ground feeder decoy ...

Have noticed that around here when hunting doves in the grain stubble fields that they are way more likely to fly around and feed when it's warm and dry rather than when the ground is wet. Good luck.

Nothing better for the first week or so of dove season. Stick them in a straw bale still sitting in the field and the birds try to land on the darn things.

Have 5 grain fields scouted out and three of them are thrashed already. Been noticing this week that instead of seeing doves in pairs I am seeing them in bunches of 6-8. Man I can't wait, I have a 1 year old GWP that this will be her first dove hunts. If it is anything like the past few years we wil...

Depends on the temperature. When chukar hunting early season generally about 3 hrs. or so, done by noon when it gets hot. Later in season will go 4-6 hrs.

When I first started chukar hunting I was told the first thing you do is take your favorite gun your going to hunt with and just throw it down in the rocks very first thing so when you fall while chasing them birds(and you will) the scratches won't bother you any more

Not to hijack this thread but I have a similar problem with a different twist, my 2 year old GWP retrieves well but just as she gets a couple of feet from me she will start munching the bird-she only seems to bite down on it once she gets close to me. Does your GWP hunt closer in as they say the Griffon does or is it rangier like my shorthair? How is their personality and house manners? Do they socialize with other dogs well?
