Re: What to do with wild birds and 9 month old Brittany
One thing i noticed in the video is everyone seems nervous or worried about what the dog is going to do, remember dogs will feed off of the atmosphere which you create i believe. So if you are nervous , the dog will be nervous also . This is how much you should say while flushing birds .https://you...

Re: What to do with wild birds and 9 month old Brittany
I read this thread about 5 times and you guys are 100% right. I appreciate the advice I am going to: 1. Not say a word when he is on point 2. Only shoot birds where the point is held without creeping 3. Work on whoa at the at the table. One thing that is confusing me though is why I would keep my mo...

Does anyone's dog react differently to different ecollars?
I have two ecollars that I use. The Garmin 550+ and the Dogtra Arc. The Dogtra Arc which I believe is made for smaller dogs like Brittany's works great. I have the setting on 8 (total of 127 settings) and he reacts immediately to come. Anything above 20 and he yelps so I don't go higher then 12 or s...

What to do with wild birds and 9 month old Brittany
This is similar to another thread that was just posted but mine is slightly different so I thought I would post it anyway. My dog has crazy drive and loves hunting. He points beautifully although there seems to be a lot of false points as well. When he points on pheasants I will whoa him and sometim...

Re: How far should Brittany range
Thanks Ray. Ya I try to charge it every single time before we go out. I noticed he is not ranging nearly as far as before. Most of the time he stays in the 60 yard zone which is fine with me. Once in a while he gets out to 100 yards but that is rare so I am making progress.

Re: How far should Brittany range
Deseeker: This was a big mistake on my part. I had the Garmin Pro 550 so I had GPS on him today but I should not have gone where I went today. Rookie mistake. IDHunter: That is the hope. We live in Ontario so 200 yards or even 30 yards often means I have no idea where he is. I called the breeder tod...

Re: How far should Brittany range
These are all awesome replies and I have read them many times over. The replies actually makes me feel pretty good that he is ranging well but.... Today I had a set back that made me feel pretty down. I took my dog into a forest and let him run. This was a thick forest. Usually I try for grasses wit...

How far should Brittany range
I have a Brittany puppy (8 months old) who has insane bird drive. He also loves go far away from me for some reason. I have him on a Garmin 550 Pro GPS so I know exactly where and far he is away from me. I see him often get out to 150-200 yards before I ecollar and blow the whistle. Can someone help...

Not sure if you guys saw in the bragging section but my wonderful 7 month old Brittany did very well in the NAVDHA Natural Ability Test scoring 110/112. Anyway I wanted to ask you guys what is expected of a finished dog. Here are my thoughts just from what I read but I am sure I am missing stuff, pl...

NAVDHA NA Test
I have been here asking for a lot of advice about my Brittany in the training section. Today my Brittany ran his NAVDHA Natural Ability test. I have been telling you guys his recall is not great but he is getting much better lately. I also told you guys that his bird drive is off the charts as well ...

Re: Recall with ecollar question
Decided to order the "Perfect Start" DVD based on so many suggestions here. My dog is good on recall (because I used some of the suggestions from another thread) especially with the ecollar when there is no birds or other distractions (like other bird dogs). As soon as you add those to the mix he is...

Recall with ecollar question
Hey Guys, I had a quick question about recall using ecollar. I have seen a bunch of videos online and it really varies on what people do. Standing Stone Kennel teaches to turn on the collar (continuous) until the dog comes to you. Other videos shows a nick to have the dog come and others show contin...

Re: How to calm down a Brittany?
Only at NAVDHA do I have keep him on a leash but I think the stakeout might help as someone else suggested. uh, if NAVDHA training sessions are the only times you have times you have him on a lead and he pulls and act like a jerk on a lead, I see his point. How about taking him for walks on a lead ...

Re: How to calm down a Brittany?
Don't make the chain on the stakeout chain too long. For one, a dog can wrap a leg in a long chain and get badly injured. Another reason is the stakeout is a form of confinement right now, so you don't want to leave room for the dog to run circles or bounce around. Always keep an eye on your dog wh...

Re: How to calm down a Brittany?
Not sure what you meant, but "off leash" is not the same as running hard with you. My JRT has a big back yard in which to roam, but unless he gets a hard run in the fields/woods with us daily, he is intolerable in the house. Glad the members were of help. They usually are. Let us know how it goes a...

Re: How to calm down a Brittany?
You've had excellent advice. My thanks to those members who are so helpful on here- the purpose of the forum. What you are experiencing is totally common . You might think the dog is getting enough exercise, but on leash training is not sufficient exercise. That dog needs to go hard off leash for m...

Re: How to calm down a Brittany?
If you go to a training session and the dog is out of control...put it back in the box until it stops being out of control or take it on a lead with a half hitch around its waist and heel it away from the group and work with it on the rope until it calms down. The heel it back toward the group and ...

Re: How to calm down a Brittany?
Relax!!! Your pup is only six months old and sounds like the kind of dog that will mature in to a great hunting dog. He is excited to get out in the field and see other dogs and people, that is a good thing. Need to do it as much as possible at six months of age. This is not the time for negativity...

How to calm down a Brittany?
I am really starting to lose my patience with six month old Brittany. So much so that I am starting to think I am not cut out for dogs. I train my dog every day and we work on whoa, heel, sit, come, stay. He is okay at all those things but not great any any of them but generally he is getting much b...

Okay awesome. I was getting worried. He seems very healthy and not overweight at all. I exercise him daily. He just seems really stocky. Anyway we adore this dog but I was so shocked when I saw a 2 year Brittany today that was smaller then my 5 month old Cooper.

Brittany 33lbs at 5 months old should I be worried
Hey Guys, Today I went for training with some other Brittany's and one was much smaller then my Cooper. I asked the owner how old he was and was floored when he said 2 years old. I am like WTF. My dog is 5 months old and is 33lbs. I am really worried about this now. Should I be? Am I feeding him too...

So I got way tougher on him and it seemed to stop the biting. He nips a little but nowhere near what it used to be. I would like to thank the forum for all of the advice. Hey Guys, We have a Brittany Spaniel who is extremely loving and smart. He is exactly four months old today. I cannot get him to stop biting.
