Re: Puppy shot question
My pups get 3, 5 way shots between 6 and 12 weeks. I read a posting a few months ago from the American board of Vet (something like that). I believe it recommended 3 shots at 8, 12, and 16 weeks. Yes the new protocol is for 8, 12, and 16 weeks. I've been following this for about 5 yrs now. I give a...

Chien's post is spot on for describing and giving history of the breed. There are still quite a few breeders of Weims who have no concern for hunt and only show their dogs. Just last week a breeder told me that she has no interest in field work with her dogs but she is absolutely SURE that her dogs ...

Dan, I know what the big dance is. I have friends who go and Marie's sire, dam, and full sister are FDSB registered. What I was referring to was the earlier argument about some people not wanting the winner having its picture taken on the steps.

In all of the years I've been traveling on I-10 and I-20 through Mississippi and Louisiana I've always seen a lot of dead dogs along the road. I made my first trip through there in the 80's and that was one of my first observations. Lots of Walker Hound type dogs. This year I actually saw less domes...

Re: Blue weimaraners
Ah yes Weims can have a tendency to not do so well when brought into a kennel situation. I personally think it's a creation of both genetics and owner. The tan points in Weims most likely come from the hound that was used in the creation of the breed just like the Dobe goes back to the same hound. I...

FYI http://justweimaraners.com/2010/09/genetic-research-on-blue-weimaraners/ But what is the cross? Somewhere, Dobermans were mentioned, but that would bring tan into the equation. Cherry, coming from a pure ignorance when it comes to breeding, can you say why you don't like to get too close? I don't like black dogs, unless they are tans, but I resent the heck out of anyone implying that they are some kind of deviant strain when found in certain breeds. The color has been so maligned over the ages that it has developed into a cultural prejudice. Genetically it's impossible to get a Blue...

I don't recommend a rapid switch from one kibble to another. That would be asking for a messy case of diarrhea. But you can do a rapid switch to raw meat.

I had one time when I got stuck out of town unexpectedly after only planning for a day trip. I just went to the nearest grocery store/WalMart and bought raw chicken, chicken backs, and canned pumpkin. Dogs survive quite well on raw chicken and backs. I just don't feed leg bones.
