Re: Hypoglycemia ?

Ok, so I am going to switch his food to something with more protein and fat probably the purina pro plan. Also, my vet said to feed him some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every so often when we are hunting and that should take care of it also.

Thanks for the help.

Hypoglycemia ?

I have a GSP that is 4 1/2 years old now. The last year and this year after hunting for a few hours he starts whimpering and just walking by me instead of being out in front of me hunting. After he started doing this we would just stop and go back to the truck. Well this weekend on the way back to t...

Re: GSP just stops hunting

I took him hunting this weekend and everything seems to be back to normal. I didn't hunt him as long as I had the previous times we were out because I didn't want to push it. But he hunted hard and didn't show any signs of slowing up.

Re: GSP just stops hunting

The vet did a lot of tests on hime including an EKG. All that he could find was that he has a severe bladder infection. I am giving him medicine for that and will not hunt him for a week. After that I will take him out again and we will see what happens. Hopefully, it was just the bladder infection....

Re: GSP just stops hunting

The hunting that we are doing has been all crp grass so the terrain has not been too tough. We are finding a few birds but not a lot. It has been a tough year so far here in Nebraska. I was also under the impretion that it was bad to feed your dog right before any strenous activity but figured my ve...

Re: GSP just stops hunting

Thanks for the input so far. Just to add a little more information to this. I have some energy bars that are made for sporting dogs that I give him every so often while he is hunting. Also, when we get to the truck he has no problem jumping up into the back. I also hope that it is just muscle crampi...

GSP just stops hunting

I am really confused and worried about my dog. I have a 2 1/2 year old GSP. I have had him out hunting 4 times so far this year. Opening weekend he did great and we didn't have any issues. The next 3 times he does great runs hard and hunts hard for a couple of hours with breaks for driving to differ...

circular scab

I have a 1 and 1/2 year old german shorthair. Today I noticed that he had a circular scab that is about 1/2 inch in diameter on his belly. It also feels like there might be a small bump underneath of it. I didn't see any other scabs on him any where. I have had him out hunting the past few days so I...

Hunted in the snow on saturday morning. There were four of us and we got 4 roosters so it wasn't too bad. Some of the birds were still not holding very good even with the snow and cold weather. Just getting to educated by now I guess.

Depending on the weather I am going to go out with my dog around the Beatrice area tomorrow morning. I was just wondering if you guys thought that I should buy some boots for my dog and use them. Didn't know if all of this ice and crunchy snow would be hard on his feet or not. Also, since we are sup...

Thanks for all of the advice I do appreciate it. I already have a lock on the gate and I am going to get him back on the cc on work on all the basic commands again until I am 100% sure that he knows them and will listen. I will also do some more field work with him. I know that he is still a pup and...

When he takes off I think that it is just to get out of the backyard and he doesn't really care where he goes. He has only hunted one season that was last year when he was about 6 months old. I had him out several times hunting last year I would guess between 15 and 20. He does ok in the field, I di...

Running Off

I have a gsp that is just over a year old now. He knows all the basic commands like sit, stay, no, and come. But in the last couple of months he has just bolted on me three times and does not listen at all when he has done this. We have him in a fenced in back yard and each time he has taken off the...
