What does your Hunting/Dog vehicle set up look like?
1996 Chevy Tahoe. I love this vehicle. Big and full of space. I have two dog crates in the back and usually hunt three dogs. I like the fact that the dogs are inside the cab so they can get air conditioning or heat depending on the time of the season. I put some carpeting down over the tailgate so b...

Iowa pheasant opener
Today was the Iowa pheasant hunting opener . Harvest is running about 10 days behind schedule and many places still have standing corn. We had some decent luck hunting this morning. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171029/1daed9905c9788c60c4c3ccdecb2b073.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk http...

Re: It's cold
I have German shorthair pointer's and live in Iowa, where normal Iowa winter temps can arrange to below zero to the 20s. I am currently down to one dog which I worry about her getting cold but she is in a double insulated doghouse and has an entryway that goes back to her den area which blocks the w...

Re: Dog "flagging" tail
The female is 5 years old. She does flag pidgeons also. It is not a running pheasant thing. I have seen her hold very staunch with her tail right on top of a bird and then the next bird she flags. I'm more cognizant of shutting my mouth and not talking when she is locked. Don't think I need to resor...

Chronic Wound on Top of Foot
I have a 5 year old entact female gsp. She has developed sores on the top of her front two feet, at the base of her toes. When I hunt her they bleed from running through the switch grass and it seems to be a constant problem over the first 3-4 weeks of the season. She has never had this problem befo...

Dog "flagging" tail
I have a gsp female who consistantly "flags", wags her tail back and forth in the pointing postion (11:00 o'clock) when she is on wild pheasants. Occasionaly, she will lock hard and tight and not move her tail at all. She does not break point while she is flagging and I know if I trialed her this wo...

Re: iowa roosters
Hollywood, it looks like that dog may have alot of dixieland breeding in it's pedigree. He looks very much like a dixieland bred dog that I once had. Where did you get him????
Re: Iowa Phez
Crop has been out in most of the area where I live for several weeks. Many farmers almost done with their fall tillage. This is one of the earliest harvests I can remember. The problem that I have run into this year is the dry scenting conditions. We have not had rain for ever. Lots of dust!!! It so...

Chip,
The artsy thing is a little over the top for me. I could get beat up for taking a picture like that from where I am from.
I do like the way those two hounds look!! What kind of pedigree is behind Digger?

Re: Places to camp on pheasant trip Iowa/Kansas
Iowa does not have walk in areas on private land. We do have quite a bit of public hunting and lots of private ground if you can run down the owner. To truly have a successful hunt a guy needs to commit to an area and return each year. There are several groups that come to our town from as far away ...

Re: Kansas Trip...
Chip, Sounds like you had one of those trips to remember for all the wrong reasons. I got out Sunday with four other friends in the quiet state of Iowa. Started about 8:30 a.m. and finished with our limit at about 2:00 p.m. Lot of good dog work and had to walk and sweat to get our birds. The walk an...

Kennel Arrangement "Who sleeps with who"
I currently have 6 GSPs and 4 kennel runs. The problem I'm starting to be concened about is which dogs should I put together and which should I seperate. None of the dogs are what I would call fighters but I have broken up 2 fights in the last 3 months between a male/female littermates. This is what...

Cooper pups
I bred to Cooper last summer with a Dunfurs Charlie Bailey-Gates bitch. He is a beautiful dog. This breeding had Hoosier Buddy at the grandfather position on the sire's side and at the great grandfather slot on the dams side. I have a male and female that I held back for myself. My two pups are off ...

I read recently on another board that you just have kind of gotten lucky with everyone elses hard work of breeding. I use to own a dog out of FC Dixieland's Luke and Moesgaards Lady Jackie. I noticed that a full blood sister was in Spot's pedigree. I'm not sure if my dog was a littermate to this dog...

I always find this a little bit funny but , I'm sure if you have a dog with this problem it is not funny at all especially if you like to give your dog kisses. You have to admit a product that makes "poop" taste bad is funny. I think poop would taste bad on it's own. There is a comedian that does a ...
