Back on the forum

Hello there. I became a member a long ago learning about choosing and raising my 14 year old gsp when before I got her and while she was a kid. Now I'm back to brush up on puppy stuff, and see if I can do better for my next one.
Cheers 🍻

Re: Brittany Breeder in Eastern Iowa area

I have been reading about the French Brittany today in my research. I just need to meet some dogs and breeders.

Brittany Breeder in Eastern Iowa area

Hello forum, I've had a shorthair for 9 years now who has been a family dog first that hunts pheasants and goes camping and fishing and everywhere else with us. We're considering another dog in about a year or so. We love our shorthair and might get another one, but I'd like to learn more about Brit...

My thought is that it depended on the behavior of the individual dog not the gender. Thanks for the replies.

Two females shorthairs in the house?

Hi forum. Long time, no post. So my German shorthair is almost 9, super laid back, and incredibly well behaved. She is a house dog that hunts with me in season and goes on various adventures the rest of the year. Lately I have had the itch to get another one, but with my busy life I have been consid...

I have the perfect start, but I really need that finish. Prizes like this are a great way to help us rookies out. That's the kind of thing that I love about this forum. Thanks.

Re: She ain't feelin good

My dog had almost the exact same thing a few weeks ago. My dog wasn't trying to vomit though, and she wasn't laying down in the yard. She would hardly go in the yard or even leave my leg. I noticed that she was hot in the night, and it was like she had the flu or was blocked up. We went to the vet t...

Re: SUV big enough? Seeking advice!

I have an '03 4runner. I have one dog and a four year old son. I have a cargo area barrier that I picked up at Gander Mountain for about $30. When the family goes on a trip the dog lays on a blanket in the cargo area which leaves about half the space back there for suitcases, or stroller, or whateve...

Re: Winter schedule - anyone use a treadmill??

I work second shift. I get home at 1:00AM, and I just got in from almost 30 minutes of playing fetch in the yard. My dog can find the bumper in the dark. She either marks the sound or sometimes she has to snif for it. I figure those are both good things to practice. Yeah, my neighbors love me. :wink...

Re: whats a good in ground fence?

I've heard a lot of bad about the innotek ecollars on this forum, but I went with it anyway for my fence. It is the only one I've used, so I can't say that it is better or worse than the others. I can tell you what sold me on it. It uses a warning tone when the dog gets close to the boundary before ...

Re: Homemade Pigeon Trap

I've been waiting to finish mine to reply to your post. I used the one on gundogsupply.com as a pattern. Theyhave really good pictures and give you the dimensions. I got everything and a little extra for $15 at Lowes. If you can get the cage that Denise mentioned for $17-$19 it would be worth it. It...

Hello and Thank You

I've been a member for a while, and I was reading before my pup was even born. I have a 19 month old female gsp, Molly. I almost feel like I know some of you guys. I decided I should write something in this part to sort of introduce myself to the rest of the forum, but [ b]mostly to thank all of you...

Re: What breed has your dog been mistaken for?

I usually get "some sort of spaniel". Once when she was a little pup I got "some sore of terrier". I always tell them what she is, but sometimes it does come down to "bird dog". I love it though, when people don't know what she is. I figure that if gsp never becomes so popular that everyone knows wh...

Re: Frontline needed in winter months?

Some advice I was given was that if your dog is going to be handling wild animals or at least running through the places that wild animals live, you should keep using it. The reasoning I was given is that we don't always get winters that are cold enough for long enough to kill all the bugs that are ...

Re: Why did you decide to pick the breed you picked??

I grew up with a mutt that was half beagle and half German shorthair. He had the hieght and colors of a tri color beagle and the body size of a big male shorthair. He never hunted except we caught baby bunnies in the back yard. He and I were the youngest in our big family, and he was older than me b...

Re: question about accidents

Finally, something I know about. I'm a housekeeping supervisor in a hospital. We clean up a lot of urine. There are a lot of products in the pet stores that will kill the urine smell. At home we keep a small carpet spot extractor that we got for about $30 at Walmart or Target (don't remember which)....
