Re: Our host Gun Dog Supply

They are good folks. I had the opportunity to use their satisfaction guarantee on a collar I bought earlier this year. They were very happy to swap it out. I’m very happy with their service.

I have been all over the place on feed because of my new pup. He seems to react badly to chicken, although we haven’t done extensive diet testing to confirm. This meant we had to move away from Fromm Gold Large Breed Puppy. Anything with chicken in it gives him the runs. My vet does not recommend Pu...

Re: An Unfortunate Miss

My vision sometimes is off, and the walk had me gassed. Thinking back, I did not process "rooster" when the bird jumped. The glare from the sun had me pause. That allowed him to get a few wing beats in. Then the wind moved him fast. My first shot was 2 feet behind him. After that it was pointless. ...

I didn’t mean to imply that you were slow or old (I’m quickly getting to be both, myself!). I just meant that bird caught the wind and was out of sight in a hurry.

I was thinking the same thing as I read it, but I am a brand new trainer with my first hunting dog. I’ll share my approach, and maybe as more experienced people point out mistakes, it’ll help guide you. I have read the 10 minute retriever several times. I’m reading here and on the golden retriever f...

It always amazes me how quickly these birds fly! It looks like he went with the wind and I’d guess he was 30 yards out before you even fired a shot. Neat video!

I will definitely be praying for this drought to end. I hope you had a good season. Thanks for the video!

Trainer recommendations

I am located in the Colorado front range, between Denver and Loveland. I am looking for a field trainer to work with. I may also want to have the trainer do force fetch for me.

Has anyone used a trainer in the area they would recommend?

Thanks for posting a better link. We're on a 28 day complete lockdown here as of Dec 26 , so I'll be doing a lot of reading and running the dog (allowed). You’re welcome. Thank you for all of the help you have given me. Merry Christmas and good health to you! While most of the Colorado front...

Re: Muzzle loader season

When I hunted back east, I was never much of a scent user. Sorry I can’t help with that. I always liked sitting travel corridors and edges during muzzleloader. Unfortunately, mz was always January in Ohio and it was seriously cold to sit still for long. Hunting the west has made me much more comfort...

Hi, thanks for your input! I have hunted for many years, but my shots on birds have always been few and far between. It was definitely me rushing in excitement. I’m OK that the rooster lived to fly another day.

Howdy, new member here and I hunt. I’m looking forward to training my first hunting dog. My latest trial was just poor shooting on my part. I was working the northeast corner of a pivot irrigation field with some fresh snow on the ground. My dog is over to my right and I see rooster tracks in the sn...

I live in Colorado and hunt here and nearby states. I have always hunted upland game and in the past decade I have been b...

Your girl is a looking dog. Echo and I are same. We are so close that I feel bad for Josey. Look up Standing Stone Kennels on YouTube. They are responsive to questions. I will hunt near Nebraska tomorrow. Hopefully, cows have not been let into the corners yet. I hope we can scratch up a limit. Not ...

Great pictures and congrats on the puppy! We have a 17 month old that I am not going to hunt this season. She and I need to work some more before we get her on wild birds. Hi folks, I’ve been lurking for some time. I have been hunting for almost 40 years. I have never had bird dogs, but I have hunted with them. My golden retriever enjoys hiking with me, but she isn’t really hunting or retrieving. I have a new pup that I will be training to hunt.

Re: My Observations from the Field - 12/6/20

I’ve been seeing the same thing in Colorado. The past couple years have been very sparse. Spring hail storms, yet not enough rain to produce good grass. For what it’s worth, western Kansas seems the same this year. We have been hunting irrigated corners. Lucky to bring home 1 bird also. https://uplo...
