Re: Garmin 550 Problems
I use the Pro 550 plus a lot. One thing that has always been the case for me is that it is least accurate when the collar and the handheld are very close together, as in your test. I have the collar on my dog as I walk on a 6 foot leash a lot and the positioning is never accurate in that situation. ...

Re: Multipe devices tracking one dog collar?
Thanks for the feedback here. I ultimately went with a used Alpha 200i because I also wanted emergency satellite messenger abilities, so that saved needing to get another device. I am able to track the one dog collar with both the Pro 500+ and the Alpha 200i at the same time, which is great. For a m...

Re: Steel shot for uplands
I live in CA and also hunt wild quail on public land. The only pheasant I've had the opportunity to hunt are pen-raised, so 2.75in #4 steel is what I generally use, but I understand wild is a bit different. For quail dominated areas, my favorite load is a 3" #7 shot hammer dove load. If you want the...

Re: Multipe devices tracking one dog collar?
It sounds like any alpha unit may be able to connect to the collar while the 550 is also connected. That would be nice.
I was just looking into the satellite emergency messenger devices. Now I have even more to consider.
Thanks for the feedback.

Multipe devices tracking one dog collar?
I have a Garmin Pro 550 Plus. I love being able to see the distance and direction of the dog while hunting in the field. We hunt a lot of ravines and other areas where the dog can be out of direct line of sight, even if he isn't that far away. Is there a way where my hunting partner and I can both h...

Re: Too much tracking for young pup?
I live near Sacramento, CA. I have reached out to the local NAVHDA chapter. They recommended that I get a more versatile breed, though setters are officially recognized by NAVHDA as "versatile". I feel a bit guilty about not being interested in the spirit of NAVHDA since I am only really interested ...

Re: Too much tracking for young pup?
You are buying a hunting dog to hunt wild birds. I don't understand why you are so concerned about training the dog to track. But the first year or more you need to concentrate on obedience. Get the dog in the field as much as possible and just let the dog explore and learn. If your dog has a prope...

Too much tracking for young pup?
Hello all, This is my first post to the forum. I have some experience in dog training and bird hunting, but I've never had a bird dog before (and thus never trained a bird dog!). This summer I am planning on getting my first bird dog puppy - an Irish setter from hunting lines. I hope to get as many ...

Re: Red Setter litter Planned
I'm looking for a red setter puppy soon. I'll be interested in hearing more once you finalize the breeding.
