Re: Gamebird Transition
It seems like with your set up you should have the ideal situation. i assume you are talking Bobwhite quail. If you have a call back, the birds fly good after a day or two of being out. If you control the dog on a couple birds he should get it. Don't shoot any birds he chases and get some kind of h...

Re: Gamebird Transition
First of all pen raised quail are not always the best training birds. Second, pen raised quail are usually better if the dog is still on a check cord. Third, if you are using pen raised quail you might quit and go right to wild birds. If the dog is standing pigeons and behaving the way you want he ...

Re: Gamebird Transition
Common sense says I would need to do yard/field work with quail to make him put it together that same rules apply on quail as pigeons. I'd say the opposite. Maybe wild quail but not planted ones. You need strong flyers. If he's good on pigeons, get him running on wild birds. Yeah….. except we have ...

I saw that I can get a thing of Timothy grass from TSC. That was my next option. But have you seen any negative effects from the cedar and the dogs nose?

Alright. Looking to see who uses what for dog bedding. Had a guy approach me about using red cedar stating that it will or can affect their nose. Well, my pointer took second in the Open Puppy and Amateur Puppy. Thought we had the Open won. Think if he would have stayed in the pocket a little better we would have won it. Going to be working on staying to the front. Give it another go in two weeks.

I do believe you are correct. I just finished Mo’s book and I really enjoyed it. Can’t beat the “Meat on the Table” video either. Since I started using their method everything is going great. Again, prob because it’s easy for me to understand what’s happening.

What techniques does everyone use to get their pup to stop pulling like a mule on the check-cord? I’ve seen articles of people using pinch collars, e- collars, slip style leads, ect. Any suggestions would be great. Dog is about to choke himself out.
