I think of it as the "future" of the breed hence the name futurity. As Ray has said, they are breeder stakes where breeders can showcase what they feel are the best litters they have produced.

Yep Justin - you basically said it in your prior post - all about trusting the dog and if you don't trust em don't let them go. NGSPA Reg 5 is before (although I am hearing rumors it may not happen this year because of overlap with NGSPA nats, we'll see) and a weekend trial inbetween. Looks like they have it all under the same name schedule wise.

From what I understand it is true that AKC rules take precidence but if your dog wins the derby and it is outside of the AF derby age, the win will count for AKC but not for AF.

Yep - that's the way I do it. Get 'em pointed and get 'em out. Way too many bad habits that can develop if they stay in the puppy/derby classes too long IMO.

I think there is a walking trial at Pike County Bird Hunters Club in the works just before Thanksgiving. Usually there are two club and they make it a 4 day event.
