Region VII started this morning with the ASD stake. I know John is out there as he was reporting back with the AKC trial in San Antonio over this past weekend. Hopefully he will provide us with some updates along the way.

Re: Question about gun dog vs. shooting dog.
I believe the AF OSD stakes are all 1 hour, whereas the AKC Gun Dog stakes are 30 minutes. To say the least, a shooting dog must posses the endurance and stamina to not only run the hour, but to impress the judges by finishing the last 5 minutes as strong & stylish as the dog ran the first part of t...

Re: 1st gundog - pros and cons of free feeding?
Personally, I don't think so. I've seen too many reportedly "picky" dogs that'll only eat a certain food in a certain way over a certain time get right with the program about eating what you want them to eat when you want them to eat...or they go hungry. You set the food down, if they don't eat, yo...

Re: 1st gundog - pros and cons of free feeding?
I have read the various posts and there are pro's and con's to free feeding. The bottom line is this- Each and every dog is different and it basically comes down the individual dog. If you are running a trial dog and he is a pig (my 3 year old) it must be a once a day feeding and not before they run....

Lot's of good suggestions. It's all about finding the interest of the majority. If hunting is the thing in your area , then I would suggest centering your club around teh hunting experience. Training Days, Hunts, Hunting Seminar's, Guest speakers at club meetings that can offer advice, insight, and ...

Wyndancer,
I guess what I was asking was (and since i have never had the opportunity to attend the Nationals) does a large stake such as this continue through, or is there some type of elimination that takes place as it goes along.

One word of caution...field trialing is expensive...sometimes ridiculously so, if you get heavily involved. It also can seriously cut in to your hunting time, since the seasons overlap. It is also addicting. It sucks you in and makes you do all manner of things for the sake of a $3 ribbon. But it i...
