I cut a hole in mine took a piece of wood and used hinges. I hinged it to the house so it would fold up and cover the bobs and I put a latch to keep it closed. When it opens it becomes the landing platform to the entrance. So far works good> I am new to pigeons and I have just been flying them 2 we...

Most trainers train a dog to sit to one whistle, come in to three whistles, and two blasts means NO. The only time you'll really be casting a dog in the field, after he's trained, is to handle him on a blind. Then he'll work to the commands BACK and OVER. I really prefer LEFT and RIGHT to OVER, but...

OK so i need to just build a landing platform and put my bobs in. Im making some out of the PVC like i saw on here. I was then going to put a cover or door over them where they would not be exposed at all times. I am worried about a hawk going in. can you give me some ideas on how you would fix it w...

Using the whistle in training
If i want to intorduce a whistle how should i do it? i can say his name and turn my body and point and he will start working that way. Is that what most people do? I would like to have whistle command for here, left, right etc? Is it practical to do this for just a hunting dog?

I have an Owens DIY box also. It works great for what I need. If I remember right it was around $200 for the kit. It came with all the metal diamond plate steel peices and you needed to get 2 sheets of 1/2" OSB and a can of paint. Nice to be able to fit this in the back of my Jeep. The 48" model wa...

My homers do very well with the nipple type waterers. Hang it a bit higher than you would with your quail. I like it because it is slow freezing up in cold weather. the ice forms at the top not the nipples. There is no fouling of the water by the birds. And algae will not form in it in warm weather...

She's a puppy, keep that in mind. If you are talking about trying to pull her off of bird scent WHY? At this age you are far better off letting her learn what is/isn't game and exploring the world (as long as it's safe) than you are trying to get too serious about obedience. She certainly seems to ...

If you have a CC on her and she doesn't come dont just tug, drag her all the way to you and then tell her shes a good dog then release her. Luke, sometimes the more you throw birds for a dog to retrieve, the ruffer they want to get with it. Once the bird gets wet with slobber it tends to make some dogs munch. My advice is stop messing with him on thrown birds. Have you shot a bird for him? FF can fix hard mouth, and I have used the eco...

Back to Luke. Luke, think about this and evaluate it carefully: Is your older dog trying to eat the bird or is he very loose mouthed and just mouthing it and pulling feathers from it? They are two very different things. Does he kill a live bird and eat it? With the youngster, take a couple of pigeo...

Just a quick opinion: You really need to take the older dog off birds and go through FF. I don't think that you will be able to able to comprehensively address the hard-mouth till you do. Don't try to rush, don't short-cut and do not interrupt the FF. It only leads to problems that make you start o...
