Re: quail hunts
Hunted a couple new places today. The first one had some nice buffer strips around the crop fields but they have it all in fescue and we didn't find a bird. Found a covey on another farm in a crp field. Took 1 bird on the covey rise and let the singles go, the covey was a little too small.

Franchi Alcione 12 gauge. Although I did buy a prewar Ithaca 16 gauge that I would love to give a try on birds, but sadly it has a full choke barrel. I cannot believe how light it is and how slick the action is.

I have an 1100 lt-20 that I have had for about 30 years. Its what I started out hunting with and what I started my son out with. I used concrete patio blocks for the floor in mine. The downside is you will have some grass grow up between the cracks. A lot easier than pouring concrete or shoveling rock and if I ever need to move it I can.

I would think you could do a little better than that. I don't know what you plan on using the gun for, but keep in mind that guns of that age typically have a fixed choke unless someone has had screw in tubes added or put a polychoke on it. If you are serious deer hunter and have to use a shotgun th...

i got an email topday from a guy with a "nearly new" Model 37, 12 gauge, 30" barrell, $225....Seriel Number is 961118, looks like it was made in 1966. was cleaning out his uncles house and found it in the attic. I am sure that it has a full choke with a 30" barrel but I think that is a good price. ...

I recently bought a prewar 16 gauge. It is a joy to carry and solid as a rock but on this vintage you cannot change barrels without getting them fitted by a gunsmith and the trigger is a little heavier than I would like. You will like the price a lot better than a model 12 of the same time frame.

1. Chow-I have been around 2 and they were both biters.
2. Pit Bull-I just don't get why anyone would want to take a chance with a dog that can do so much damage.
3. Any little yappy breed that is smaller than the average housecat.
4. Coonhound-All the barking gets on my nerves.

I really like the Franchi line of guns. You can get a sharp looking, well made, reliable gun that you can use for a lifetime and still be proud to pass on to the kids. From your avatar it looks like you will be shooting over pointing dogs. I would go with 26" barrels and cylinder, improved cylinder,...

I use a Franchi Alcione in 12g with 26" barrels for quail because it is light, easy to carry, gets on birds quick, and I like an O/U. Wish I had a set of 20g barrels for it. For doves most of the time I use a 28g Remington 1100 Sporting model that I absolutely love. Also have an 1100 20g that that my...

You will find lots of good choices out there. Unless you are a collector or plan on being one, take that gun out and bust some birds with it. You only live once and you can't take it with you. O/U guns are by nature more expensive than the pump guns you are used too, but they are a pure joy to shoot. You are going to take a hit if you sell or t...
