I agree with Mike50. She should be able to stay in her kennel all day if you regulate water. As far as getting her to stay after coming to you. Just make that part of the come command. That way you don't have 2 commands for one action. When she gets to you, don't say anything, just hold her by the c...

I usually just grab their collar with one hand, and with the other I role their side lip over onto some teeth and pinch it. At the same time I say "NO BITES", later this can be used as a verbal command too. Sometimes they squeal a little, but they usually get the point pretty quickly. It all depends...

I say get rid of the wing and string. Like everybody else has said, it will just encourage sight pointing. At this age their attention span is about 2.3 seconds long anyway! If anything, I would wait a couple of weeks and get some good flying pen raised quail, put them out in some cover here and the...

I have all of his tapes and dvd's. I have also been to 3 of his seminars, as well as being able to train with him on the days before and after the seminars. You will gain a wealth of knowledge from the dvd's, but to truly benefit from his expertise you should go to a seminar. They are only around 10...

Mike hit it on the head. Just because a dog has a title of any kind doesn't mean that he came by it in the same manner that another dog that has the same title. ie..grounds, birds, weather conditions, and the competition on that day, or judges. You need to watch 'em, or know somebody that has. I als...

I've used Tri Tronics for almost 20 years. Not really any probs, other than normal wear and tear/maintenance. I did have a temporary moment of insanity around 2001 and bought a Innotek 1600 so I could use it for the launchers, and later buy a clooar to add to the system. Had it for 6 months and sold...

Book-DELMAR SMITH/DAVE WALKER Video-anything by DAVE WALKER, Meat On The Table being the most informative about his methods. But, all of them are great. New field trialers should get the one about trialng and take it to heart. The man is, or soon will be in the HOF. Mag. PDJ has good articles most o...

I agree with Charley. There are 4 pages on this post and I still don't know what dogs we are even talking about. I don't know if this is sour grapes because of a bad experience with a certain dog or line, but if this discussion continues I think somebody needs to name names or let this dead dog lie....

Jim West is down in SW Iowa, about an hour south of Omaha. He has trained/handled many MH's and FC's, as well as some national and hour champions. Very good trainer. I have trained with him at summer camp in the sandhills, and also at his home. He does mostly horseback field trials now, as well as t...

Jim - I'm glad to see you're still alive. That itch is something that you can't really describe to someone who doesn't feel it, but those of us that have it know exactly how you feel. It's hard to believe that you could stay away this long. Welcome back!!! I hope life finds you well old buddy. Feel ...

best current and past shorthair
We all have our own opinion, so here is mine. For past shorthair my vote goes to 3xNSDC/FC/Futurity Winner Heidi Ho Pinehurst. Not only did she perform and win at the national level, ( I believe my numbers are right, feel free to correct me if they're not, Robbi would know better than I.) she produc...

Hello from Central Iowa
Hello everyone, my name is Doug, and i live in Des Moines, Iowa. I enjoy hunting all types of upland birds with my GSP's. A couple of them are campaigned by Jim West of Wild West Kennels. I breed 1 or 2 litters a year and try to make sure they go to serious hunting or field trial homes. My dogs are ...
