Re: What gun dogs do you have and why?

I have Pointers and Setters. I had Shorthairs for about fifteen years and couldn't find any that caught my fancy. My first dog was a heck of a dog, but didn't have the bottom of the long-tailed Pointers. I decided to try a Pointer and Setter. I looked up a couple of litter and bought them not knowin...

Setter heat tolerance question.

I had a Pointer that loved the heat and hated the cold. I ran her in triple degree temperatures and she came home and laid in the sun without getting any water. She was just a freak. 1. Has anyone ever seen a Setter that comes anywhere near this? 2. Where did you see them at? 3. Who owned/owns them?...

1. What type of cover do you typically hunt?

2. What kind of range do you consider ideal for the type of cover you hunt? (Please be specific, give yardage.)

3. Do you use a Garmin? Would you like to if you don't?

What you mentioned is far beyond force breaking, and let me ask the last time you hunted upland birds and saw a dog retrieve a duck that was dodging and diving. Name the number of competition dogs that fail at that level because they just aren't up to snuff. We're talking about an amateur, a novice ...

I've changed the way I do things since that video was shot (and have lost some weight, too), but you have to thin about why she's following you in. It depends. If the trainer is worth the money he'll accomodate them. Look at it like camp for kids. They've been in your house their whole lives (I imagine) and been treated well. A little time in a kennel, around other dogs will do them good. They'll be bolder coming back from his place. I would th...

It depends on what you're training the dog for and what method you want to use. If you don't stop a dog until after they flush, they'll find it silly to flush. What I mean is, a lot of people go on to correct a dog when they move, after the point. They think they're putting it out of the mind of the dog to creep. They're not. There's a big wall the dog has to get over saying, "...

As long as she doesn't catch it, let her chase them. If she gets on wild birds you're not teaching her to chase, you're teaching her she can't catch them.
