I am sure you can find Lester around his farm this time of year. (Or in Murray with his dogs)
I am not sure you will find him too busy. His oldest runs the farm now.

Re: How to get a dog to range further?
The only consistently successful method for getting a dog to range bigger ....is to get another dog! In my experience you just can't get there from here. I've seen some artificially increased ranges on dogs and it isn't pretty. Your dog's natural range is your dog's natural range. It may get a litt...

Where are the studies to confirm that assumption ????

Huh? For this to be true, you are saying there is NO relationship between the quality of a breeding and the price put on the litter! Actually, I never said that. But refer to my previous answer. So what's the magic price tag that changes a pup from a high-dollar pup that's worth the asking price and the price only a fool would pay? To you, $1k is too high. It is $999? $899? What's the number? Too me buying a pup, for trialing purposes is a waste of money at any price. Do you ever take into...

Re: Dog pricing
If you have pups out of a national champion breeding, by a dog that has not shown to produce much as of yet, and a female who is well bred, but has had 50 pups with one hour champion, those pups might be $600 pups. Then, you breed your female, who has produced 4 hour champions in only two litters, ...

Since you are looking for Ferrell's line of dogs, you really need to talk to Gary Lester. Gary is using Ferrell's model.
Gary leases Ferrell's farm in Murray along with Joe Don. i would think Gary would have more than enough Miller for you.

Re: Field trialers or hunters
I do not hunt. In my area, Western Ky, Central Tn, the quail are so few and far between it does not seem right to kill them when there numbers are so low. I am only interested in "bird" dogs for trialing purposes. For pets I choose another breed, German Shepherds.

You should find some nice grouse habitat around your area.

Just wondering where most of the guys/gals on here get pups. Do you buy from a "kennel", someone who has a litter or two a year, have pups yourself, etc....? Ross, I know that was Miller's theory on paper. By "on paper" I mean if you look at the peds of his great dogs.
