Sorry about the accident. I hope your son's dog recovers quickly. If he has any control over his tail's movement that might be a good sign. I'd be calling the vet for an xray and probably pain meds. It can be hard to tell if there's a fracture or only soft tissue injury. PSA to readers - Never ever ...

I'm pretty sure if you ask your vet, he/she would tell you just draining doesn't work all that well as a cure. It just might maybe, but mostly it's a temporary fix. The fluid isn't coming from an allergy, it's coming from leaky blood vessels and tissue within the ear flap. The surgery that I'm famil...

There's a thing called ovarian remnant syndrome. If a fragment of ovary is somehow left in the dog during the spay, it can produce hormones and cause the symptoms of being in heat. Are you looking for an amateur or a pro? AKC, presumably? I'd start by asking your trainer for some possible handlers. He probably has been around enough to know who he'd trust, and who has similar training/handling skills. Otherwise you might start going to trials and observing, see who does the wi...

Sometimes when they are drained, they fill up again. It might take a day or two, or it might happen in a couple of hours. Can you plan to spend a little while out there at the kennel after putting the dogs up? Keep the hose right near you with enough water pressure to reach the little dude when he starts in. Dog needing TPLO? If you're in or near Ohio, Ohio State is doing a trial that might help with some of the costs of TPLO surgery. We've used biothane or beta-biothane collars for ages, and like them best. Grab the skin on the back of her neck and force her head to the floor. If she doesn't flop the rest of herself down, use your other hand to get her down. Hold her there until she submits. If you think he's too thin, up his feed gradually. Don't overload or go too fast, because chances are he'll squirt it right out before it does him any good. High calorie snacks throughout the day might work also, if that fits into your schedule.

I'm with CJ on this, it's a bad and inhumane idea. Have you ever seen a carded bird stuck in a tree or on a powerline, left there to flutter and slowly die? That kind of bird intro is for the owner, not the dog. Why let the pup maul a bird as its last memory of bird work before you're ready to start the pup? The first dogs I trained were 7and 8 year old mostly show bred Irish Setters. If they didn't need that early stimulation, probably your pup doesn't...

Think about what you've been doing. You corrected the dog when he was at 370 yards. By doing that you told him that 370yds is his limit, then he gets zapped.
