North Central Kansas
I got back late Tuesday night before Thanksgiving after 4 days of hunting North Central Kansas. This was my first real bird hunt so my expectations were low. I am use to hunting around TN were the birds are not that great. Saturday and Sunday we hunted private land around Beloit. We saw a bunch of p...

Southeast Woodcock
I am looking for some info on woodcock hunting in the southeast. Most post talk about both grouse and woodcock. Do they go hand and hand? How do you watch the migration? Is it predictable when they may arrive? Any advice would be great. Thanks

There is an article in the Aug. issue of Gun Dog by James Spencer about one of his golden retrievers that died in the dog box on the way back from the vet. He got stopped by a long train and when he got home the dog was passed out. He did not make it back to the vet quick enough. I never really thou...

What litter is your pup coming from? As far as the fur training I treat it the same as birds. The dog should point but if she flushes a rabbit I'll shoot it where as if she flushes a bird without me I'll let it fly off unless I flush it. This may not be the right way of doing things but It is how I ...

Heading to Kansas
I'll be heading to Kansas for a four day hunt January 11th. I plan on hunting South East or South Central KS. I'll be taking my 3 yr. old and 1yr. old gsps which have never had wild bird contact. I've worked them both on preserves and I go out most weekends trying to find some birds here around TN. ...

Has anyone ever hunted grouse in east TN, N.C. GA in the Appalachian Mountains? I've seen two diiferent articles about the grouse hunting in the area. I know it's not the same as up north but I may give it a try in the south this year.

I just got a new camera so I had to take a bunch of pictures at the Mid-South NAVHDA training day. Here is a slide show of the day.

barbwire
When working in fields with fences how do you keep your dogs out of the fence or barbwire? My older dog has learned by experience (he's ran into a couple of barbwire fences but never the actual barb). I carry a first aid kit just in case. I figure with my younger dog there has to be a better way. I ...

John, The logical next step would be for the AKC to forbid ANY DK from being AKC registered, or at least in participating in AKC field trials and conformation shows. I've got a question about Chuckers. How do they hold? Are they more like a pheasant and run or are they more like a quail and hold until flushed? Do they covey up? Any info would be great. I've typed in Chucker Partridge on a search engine but most all I could find was on preserve hunting. Thanks
