Lack of education on their part. I've run into a few knuckleheads like that and I generally approach it like an opportunity to educate the uninformed about the breed.

I'm in the "don't worry about it" category. I've got two GSPs and a DD and they all treat the kiddie pool differently. One will only stand in it to cool off, one sits in it, and the other one lays in it with just his head out of the water. They all manage to cool off in their own way!

Both of my dogs get a lump as well. Golf ball sounds a little big though. Generally the lumps on my dogs are fairly noticeable. Vet told me that it wasn't a big deal and said that lightly massaging the area might help it go down a little quicker.

I've always free-fed my dogs. They eat as much as they need throughout the day (of course leaving plenty of room for mooching people food!). Has worked well for me.

A 20 gauge is a great all-around gun and will work perfectly for dove and quail. I shoot both with a 20, as well as grouse and pheasant. If you will be just gunning for dove and quail, and don't mind the added cost of shells, a 28 gauge is a hoot as well.

But west of there in Utah you can get into some decent blue and ruff grouse. also some parts of so. ut you can get into some quail. probably north of there, near wy, you could get into some sage grouse. there is a sage grouse draw area in utah not far from 70....

I will be in the Gunnison/Crested Butte area and should be able to hunt blue and sage grouse. You may have the opportunity to hunt blue grouse but the sage grouse in that area, the Gunnison sage grouse is a candidate for listing under the Endangered Species Act. I doubt they will be having a season...

I've got two intact male GSPs....never had a problem with them. The older one is clearly the alpha, but it wasn't established through fighting (I don't tolerate it) but more passive posturing and an occassional "nonviolent" snap while the other was young.

I agree totally with the other posters regarding the invisible fence.....asking for trouble from many perspectives. Would also take a look at "field fence"; it is generally a bit cheaper than the "no climb horse fence" and just as good at keeping dogs in. Would also not let them roam off leash unles...
