Depends on the dog. One of my puppy buyers named his pup "Stain." I told him that with a name like that, he'd better switch to 'here' and stop using 'come' when he calls the dog

Sounds like the plantation was pretty inexpensive. How much land did you get for the $250,000? That was a seperate expense all together! Here's a fictitious break down of the financial costs to far too many field trialers I know: Dog 1: $800 Year 1: training books, DVDs, latest, greatest (unnecessa...

I don't know where you're located. Above the mason-dixon line: a gwp/dd, chessie, or weim. Below the mason-dixon line, definately a weim or a thin coated gwp. Just make sure that they come from solid hunting stock.

We've got the same problem here in Georgia. Last year, the major suppliers over-produced and were left holding the bag financially. This year, they under-produced. Can't blame them. All you hear about is the bad economy. But bird hunters and trialers always seem to find the extra change to follow th...

Sounds like you've got a pretty good base to start from. The weeds are critical. With the *right* weeds, there will be little need to plant food crops. Until/unless you establish ragweed, beggarlice, partridge pea, etc. go ahead and plant narrow strips of milo, pearl millet, grain sorghum, but let t...

I believe that there is no one culprit. Farming practices, urbanization, predators, chemicals, loss of share-cropping, etc. all play a part. My vet has a chart in his office of various breeds and what they 'should' weigh. Under Weimaraner, it says "70-120lbs" I crossed it out and wrote in "50-75"

Train in trees. When your dog goes on point, walk around a tree before you go in front of him. If the dog moves forward, the pressure on the checkchord will come from behind, as it is looped around a tree.
