Re: What pointing breed has the most natural retrieve?
Who "Certified" a Wiem was a retrieving breed? Funny I didn't see any wiems at the nationals this year.... The question should be, who certified them as a pointing breed? And the answer would be the AKC. In every other country, they compete equally in both pointing and retrieving events (and...

I actually had a guy tell me that he had a judge tell him that his Brittany had too much hunt in him, and he needed a tail to win a trial. I think that is ridiculous. Re: duck dogs
Here in the south, versatiles and boykins are common in the duck blind. The lab is still most popular, but the poor things have trouble with the heat. Up north, your weim should be fine, just put a vest on him for warmth and watch that he doesn't get too cold.

Much the same here. I've got two 6 month old pups now. Neither of them has ever heard the word 'whoa'--that will come later--but they do know that I go out the door first and that they must stand and wait patiently while I'm dishing out their food. I am already shooting birds over them. However, I l...

Northern Mexico and the southwestern states have basically the same habitat and preditors. They also have similar populations and farming practices. So why are there more quail in Mexico? Raptors aren't protected there, but is that the only reason?

Dogs that get bit in the head or legs have a much higher survival rate than those who take a hit to the body. Since she made it through the first day, there is an excellent chance that she will bare no more than a scar at the bite spot and will be back to her old self in no time. I'd tell you not to...

Re: Weimaraner pup only plays keep away..will not retrieve
Good advice. I might add that when you are playing retrieving games with a wee pup, it helps alot if you sit on the ground. A low body posture is less intimidating and more inviting. If he doesn't bring it back, no big deal. Just sit and enjoy the show. Usually, pup will come to you for a cuddle aft...

By 'slower pace' I meant a trot, or show ring pace. If a dog angles at a trot,--any speed of trot-- I consider that 'crabbing.' Maybe it's structure, maybe it's age. And yes, you can often eliminate crabbing by adjusting the speed of the trot . If the dog is doing it at a lope or faster, no big deal...

Crabbing only happens at a slower pace and is likely caused by structure or age. At a steady run, alot of dogs, regardless of structure or age, will angle themselves so as not to hit their front legs. A flat out gallop is different. No angling or crabbing. Just flying
