Recoil has been no problem. I feel a liight gun to carry is more important than the occaisional shot I take while hunting.

I took Holly to the vet yesterday and turns out it was a staph infection. He thinks that it began from a small abrasion on her muzzle which allowed her own staph to be introduced into her system. She is to be on 500 mg of Cefuroxime daily for three weeks initialy but may need to be continued for up ...

My Dad and I ran three setters on Sunday. As soon as we got home I washed my dog with warm water and oatmeal shampoo as I always do. By Tuesday evening I began to notice an occasional red raised area on her chest. By Wednesday evening the areas began to drain a small amount of fowl smelling clear li...

Hey Eric I don't think a kennel has to be the biggest to necessarily produce the best pups. If that is the case a lot of people on this forum have no where near enough dogs to do a good job. Most of the more successful breeders of Ryman type dogs of today have built there kennel out of dogs that go ...

I read an article a while back but can't remember what state it was done in. They autopsied 18 hen turkeys from an area that had both turkey and quail during the quail nesting season. Seventeen of the birds had quail chicks found in their gut. They felt that the clucking of the hen turkey drew the q...

Hey dog dr.
Search Quail Ranch of Oklahoma, and click on home they have instructions to build a very nice flight pen built on wire to prevent the build up of disease over time. They also show a very nice freeze proof watering system.
Good Luck

Don't forget trimming the feet closely with a clipper, this prevents picking up burrs, and balls of mud and ice. This also keeps a lot of mud out of the house.

Bred our four year old Ryman Setter June 13th. She hunts well at 46 lbs. Tends to weigh about 50 lbs during the off season. What should she weigh at the end of the first trimester, second trimester, and at whelping? Don't want those pups to big or to little either.

Don Can't say for sure but I think your dog may have become deaf. Depending on what stats you believe 6.9% to 12.4% of English Setters are deaf at birth or become deaf. It's a genetic problem with the breed. Years ago we had a setter that at probably 8 years of age became deaf. She didn't have a mea...
