These things scare me so badly I purchased one and practiced on it.
I am more scared now.
I know how to get my dog out and I ALWAYS carry a length of rope with me but...I can only hope I'll be fast enough and the trap will not have done any permanent damage.

Re: Distracted by anothers whistle
Early on, when shopping for a collar, a guy at Tritronics advised me to use the beeper on the collar for a command. He said many use it for "Whoa" but his recommendation was to use it to recall, as in "Here". The thing that made the most sense to me was "the sound will be the same to the dog, no mat...

Sierra Mtn, For smaller necks (my Britt is about 32 lbs), you may want to put it behind the E-collar. That is what works for me. For the tag end of the collar, I just double it back up thru the buckle. I kind of like the fact that it doesn't have to be really tight on her. I've noticed that it doesn...

Re: Milage in a day garmin astro?
I've got a tired Brit today. She did approx. 12 miles on Sat, 14 miles on Sunday and 9 miles yesterday. None of those were easy miles. She hunted with other dogs each time. Sat was with one of her brothers and a sister. Sunday was with two brothers. Yesterday was with a pointer and another Brit that...

As I've posted on another thread, I believe the Garmin prevented me losing my Brit. Another person posted about finding his GSP cornered by wolves. A friend of mine has a pointer pup that discovered deer recently. Before my friend realized what had happened, the pup was a long way away. He is convin...

Thanks for the tips. I may have to give it another try. Those are some fine looking Brits. Mine is a smaller female, about 32 lbs. Her father was a special dog, though without papers. I found out last weekend that my Britt points them very well. I shot only one as I didn't know what they taste like. I cooked it Sat. night, on the grill with a couple of Chukars. I don't plan to shoot any more woodcock. Someone described the taste as a blend of liver and worms. Without admitting th...

Another vote for the Garmin. I almost lost my dog once. We were on a walk in the woods and she must have gotten after something. I called and she didn't respond. I didn't have a whistle with me and it was a very windy day so I doubt she could have heard me more than 100 yards away. I checked the Gar...

I've shot three Kimber Montanas and all three shot very acceptably. One was a friend's. That prompted me to purchase one of my own. Mine prompted me to purchase one for my brother.
No dissapointments so far and I'm pretty difficult to please when it comes to rifles.

Go with the Pro 100. It is better to have the range and not need it than to need it and not have it. I'm very happy with my Pro 100. I put it on my dog every time we do something fun such as a walk. I had a Pentax Optio WP. Bought it because it was waterproof (3 ft). It was great. Unfortunately, it fell from my truck onto my concrete driveway. Repair was not economical. Good reasons right there not to guide. Similarly, I'm very careful about who I hunt with. I don't like to (and usually won't) hunt upland birds over my dog with anyone using a shotgun that doesn't break open. The whole reason to have pointing dogs is to find the birds. There is plenty of time to clo...

I trim the feathers off the legs and the really excess feathers on the ears.
Seems easier on everyone concerned that way.
I also run her with a "Skid Plate". She is a deep chested Brittany. Prior to the "Skid Plate" her belly got beat up pretty bad.
I'd buy another "Skid Plate" in a heartbeat.

Heavy brush has not been a problem. The skid plate has lots of adjustment so getting the proper fit is fairly easy.
If it is not snugged up, and gets wet, it can stretch out a little and one of her front paws can get outside the vest. It is an easy fix, once noticed.
