Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
Well...... I would shut the fence off and I would take him outside on the CC and just lead him around in the are that y0ou have enclosed so that he realizes that, the particular area is safe, then slowly work back into using the collar....... Probly would have been easier on both you and the dog if...

Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
Now, I have the opposite problem. He doesn't want to leave the house. After day one, session one, of introducing the static correction he wants nothing to do with going outside. When outside on a check cord, he will litterally crawl around my feet to the point of tripping me. He doesn't want to leav...

Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
Kennel him. You should NOT have let him run in the first place. I have never, ever, let any dog I've owned, run free. It's a recipe for a horrible disaster. When you say kennel him, I'm assuming you mean like a 10x10 fenced in area? As far as not letting him run in the first place, you are absolute...

Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
The wire is in the ground. It only took me all day to do it. The edger works great in black dirt but 90% of my yard is a sand hill. So the dirt falls back in while edging. It took a while but the hard part of installation is done. Tomorrow comes the hookup and flags. Then the training begins. You kn...

Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
Sorry the pic is so big I tried to delete it from the post but it still came up. Now, let's try it again. 123.jpg Looking at the inground fences, it looks like the stubborn dog collar is for the petsafe systems. My local Lowes sells the petsafe fences. I believe I am going to buy one of the today an...

Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
Thanks for all the suggestions and opinions. I also agree that training needs to be reinforced. I know I can blame myself for that but it is one thing that has to be done. Now if I can get my wife to implement the same "rules" while I'm not home. Got any tricks for that? While she's home he's...

Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
I am planning on putting an 8x10 fenced in area next to the garage so he does not have to be in a crate/kennel all day. That is one of the many things I have to do at the new place. As far as actually fencing a part of the yard, I'm not doing that. Part of living in the country to me is not actually...

Re: Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
I had an e-fence at my last place. Gunner would run through and chase deer, got it turned up again and again and then finally bought the tough dog collar which zapped the holy poop outta him and he stayed in ever since. Totally worth the investment. FWIW, it was about 1600 to fence in 2 acres. Okay...

Post of picture of him, teach the older kid to walk him. You gotta get em exercise. E-collar? He takes my 8 year old girl for "walks," rather he pulls her all over the place when on a leash. He has been getting out until the past couple of weeks now that he has decided to run off every time we go o...

Not sure where to go from here? Opinions needed!
We moved to the country in the summer. Originally we lived in town. At first our 3.5 year old male brittany seemed to make the adjustment with us. Now we are having problems. It has gotten to the point I cannot let him outside without him running off. From June to the middle of Sept he stayed in the...

Getting Frustrated Please Help
It's been a while since I've been on "everything has been going great" until recently. My Brittany "Louie" is a two and a half year old. About a month ago, he has begun marking in the house. Before this he only went in the house 1 time when we first got him as a puppy. I've searched on here about wh...

Snips, It's not fullproof but usually scams are done with programs that extract your email. So if you were to put your email online for any reason the safest way to put it up and also reduce spam is as follows: youremail [at] yahoo.com By putting it in that format programs cannot extract your email ...

Re: cracked pads need help please!!!
Well it seems the majority thinks this is common and can be solved myself. So I'll give it a couple of more weeks and try the protecta pad stuff with the dog boots on and see what happens. I never really thought about carpet drying the pads. I've considered the dog boots before but now I am going to...

Re: What breed has your dog been mistaken for?
When we first got our Brittany, two different people asked if he was a blood hound because of how big his ears were for a puppy. I never thought he would be mistaken for that since most his body is white.

cracked pads need help please!!!
Louie has, I would consider severely cracked pads. Not to the point of bleeding or getting sore but very deep and seems like calouses forming. A little background to the problem I first noticed they started cracking back in Sept. In the beginning of October I took him to the vet for a lymes shot and...

"Louie's Gun Conditioning Progress"
Well I've been putting Louie on pigeons for the last week and a half and took him out to see how he would react with the 20 ga. today. My first shot Louie was trying to catch the pigeon and didn't respond to the gunshot until after he caught the bird and then he looked up and around and went back to...

Re: Help my Brit is Gun Shy???
Never mind he snapped out of it and is back to himself. He had me going for a while. It's the weirdest thing though. I wonder if it has anything to do with that for the last week I've been working 16 hour days and he has only been seeing me for about 2hours a night before I go to bed. Or I wonder si...

Re: Help my Brit is Gun Shy
I've pm'd ezzy and plan to get some pigeons. But now I fear I have a bigger problem. When I started this post I took advice and stopped immediately with the cap gun. "Louie" has been completely fine up until last night. So the 17th was the last day for the cap gun. Last night I get home from work an...

Re: Help my Brit is Gun Shy
Bullseybill, I'm from the Kankakee area. You might be more familiar with Wilmington that is close by. As far as the tape I am very doubtful about that. Movies with surround sound with gun shots don't scare him. I like my weekend movies loud too. The only sound or anything that seems to scare him is ...

Re: Help my Brit is Gun Shy
Thanks for the help. Just to clarify though, he has not been around any real gun fire. Just the cap gun for the past three or four days. Only 1-4 pops each of those nights. Even on the 4th of July we kept him in the house because I figured the big bangs would scare him. He was still scared in the ho...

Help my Brit is Gun Shy???
My Brittany, Louie, is gun shy. He is now 5 months old. I haven't shot a gun with him around but he runs for the hills with a kids cap gun. I have done the clapping with him eating and banging on pots and pans, that doesn't bother him. So with his first season coming up I figured that now is the tim...

Re: New Pup & Kennel Training
I kind of figured this was normal just like taking care of a baby and no sleep at first. The breeder gave us a toy and a blanket for the pups first weeks at home. To no success that didn't phase him. Then he peed on them so we had to wash them. He is now to the point he will go in the kennel on his ...

New Pup & Kennel Training
So I've read some books and tried to do the research I could. We've had our pup for just over a week now. From what I understand, at night keep the pup in the kennel no matter how much he whines??? Well that's what we've been doing. Except he has to pee at night so we let him out once after about 4h...

Re: New Pup (Feeding Schedule???)
Thanks for your input. I am going to feed by a schedule, at least I'll try, the wife thinks it's cruel to give him food only in the morning and at night. New Pup (Feeding Schedule???)
Finally picked up our Brittany pup from the breeder. Pics will come but he is sleeping now. I have just a quick question. I've read on here that you want to get the pup on a feeding schedule right away so tell me what you think? The breeder insists that I should leave food out 24/7 for at least a mo...

Grant,
Didn't see it in your to do list but you may want to consider making all external links open in a new window. I thought that's how it was before but maybe I'm thinking of my favorite fishing forum.
Just a thought that would keep new viewers here longer.
Matt.
