Re: Minnesota Ruffed Grouse
I have a place just across the border from Minnesota in Ontario so my observations should hold for most of the "big woods" country of Northeast Minnesota. Checking the logging roads on my 4 wheeler around my place 2 1/2 weeks ago I was spotting several young of the year grouse out picking gravel. I ...

Re: Grouse habitat
I hunt Grouse in NW Ontario and what I've noticed over the years is that once things freeze up Grouse will move to the tree tops to eat buds. Even though there is still plenty of clover along roadsides for grouse to eat, I've never seen them utilize it once it's frozen. My theory is Grouse won't eat...

Re: Are you an NRA member?
I first joined the NRA in the late 1970's. Over the years, I've learned that the gun grabbers will never rest until they have rounded up ever single firearm, including your hunting rifles and shotguns. Their cry is always for more "sensible" gun laws that further restrict my constitutional rights. T...

Re: semi auto .308
I have the Saiga .308 with the 16" barrel and find it surprisingly accurate. The only down side is out of the box the ergonomics are a little strange as a result of conforming the the Clinton era assault weapons ban on imported semi-auto rifles. You can convert them to the original AK-47 pattern you...

Re: Weed eater
Stihl FS-55 Living on 11 acres of timber, I use the brush cutter blade most. Changes out easily and will cut through some pretty good size saplings, if you have the need. Zero issues in almost 10 years of use. I own the exact same model and I've had the same experience. I don't leave gas sitting in...

Re: Buying first pistol
First pistol? Easy, anything in 22 Long Rifle. Why? Because it is relatively cheap to fire, so you'll practice practice practice and because the blast and recoil are minimal meaning you won't develop bad habits and can put all your energy into focusing on the fundamentals of accurate pistol shooting...

Re: O'Dobhailien Irish Red and White Setters
I came across their listing on Gundogbreeders.com. Several testimonials are listed and all seem very complimentary.

Re: Poison Ivy?
I spent a good deal of my summer as a youth suffering from poison ivy, including a week in the hospital. As a result, I can usually spot the stuff from quite a distance. Generally speaking, poison Ivy likes well drained soil that gets full sunlight during the day. Sandy and gravel on the south side ...

Re: Timberwolves - good or evil?
Very interesting article, so my concerns are real, by the looks of that table the people with the most concern are the ones that run dogs on bears, however there are a few upland and retrievers on the list also. I have yet to hunt one second over my new dog and it is already on the back of my mind,...

About 10 years ago after several sightings a cougar was killed by our DNR in the the area of the Minnesota river valley about 20 miles south of downtown Minneapolis. Even though this was a highly populated area, the land on both sides of the river is undeveloped due to seasonal flooding. An investig...
