Re: dew claws
Dew claws are normally removed when the pup is three or four days old. At your pups age it would be surgery, expensive, painful and require time to heal. The only reason I would consider surgery would be on a dog that continually came up lame as a result of dew claws being injured during hunts. Keep...

Re: Indesctrutable dog door???
The guy who makes k-9 kondo has doors that your dog won't be able to damage. I bought one from him in 2004 and it works like new. Last summer I needed the neoprene grommets as the door was squeeking (like rusty gate) he met me in town and gave me the grommets for free. go to http://www.k-9kondo.com.

You are in the heart of cocker country. I got mine from Bud Clouse, Dublemgundogs, in eastern Nebraska. Tom Ness in South Dakota has really nice dogs. Mark Mercie actually in Minnesota has the father of my dog. I am sure you can find a half dozen good kennels in your area. If you want to find out wh...

I am thinking of the guy who resurrected the Clumber as a hunting dog, or the individuals who reinvented the Irish Setter. i never shoot "bleep" birds over my dogs as they will begin to key on those and you will have a hard time getting across the pasture. I don't want a dog to give more than a quick glance at a sparrow or lark.

jhorak, Would the dog in your avator be the one you had spayed? That dog thinks it can fly. She doesn't seem to have lost any desire/drive. Great shot. I tried to get a photo of a water entry but the best i could get was a large splash.

Re: My new English (Field) Cocker
Nebraskabirdman, I hunt with an English Cocker. Really a fun dog. Crazy to watch him when birds are in the area. The only caution I would pass on is, EC don't take to repetition as well as some breeds. Maybe don't use your dummies when you are in an area with interesting scents. Gus on log with phea...

I know i am preaching to the choir, but have you ever noticed how some hunters/shooters are complete slobs. Shooting areas covered with glass, TV's, plastics and other litter. It is little wonder public support of our sport is waning. Don't get me started on some fishermen.

I use two toots to turn dog or send him on, which caused a small problem when using a beeper collar as a locator while the dog was on point. The collar came on with two short beeps and caused the dog to move. It took a couple of sessions for him to realize the difference between a beep and a toot.
