Re: Hunting two spaniels at the same time?

I hunted these three together, the one with the bad hair could not be trusted but the other two were steady. I don't recall taking much time to teach steady, but I spent a lot of time teaching hup to whistle, shot, hand signals. By the time I introduced real birds, the two I could trust, would have ...

Shoot a live bird or throw him a wing clipped bird. My bet is he delivers the bird to hand. I had a Boykin that refused the plastic bumpers but would bring the canvas bumpers to hand. I don't remember my Boykin ever not bringing a bird back when hunting. Boykins are unique dogs.

Go to a springer field trial, volunteer to be a shagger. You will see some excellent dogs and probably know which know which line of springers you want your pup from by the end of the trial. Hopefully trials will start back up by this fall.

I got my first springer from David Jones. He used a ladder pattern mowed in his pasture for teaching side to side movement. He was kind enough to allow me to train my springer while he trained his string. The dogs tended to turn when they hit the mowed grass. Rolling a pigeon in close gives the dog ...

Nice pair of GSP, probably the best breed for birds in Nebraska. Good to see the Quail. Our drought a few years ago was really hard on quail around North Platte. I took this picture Friday, hard to believe we are in the same state.

Looking at the British Field trial forum I see there are a few British style clubs in the south, though membership appears to be small. OK this will be my last attempt to explain myself.
If an ecollar came with one for collar for the owner and one collar for the dog, users who abuse the tool, would not be so quick to fry a dog. and an added benefit you would always know when the collar needed to be recharged.
