I use the Garmin for my JRT . No battery problems for 7 years now. I use it when he is driving the neighbors crazy or when I want to sleep in. :) ( I don't agree with excessive use.) I don't even charge it anymore ; when you put it on, he knows.

Definitely think a lot of Higgins ' method ,but I do it differently. I start in the back yard with a check cord and a command. I use "yohhhhh" . Use the command ,turn the dog. Then extend your distant from the dog using the command. Same as you might teach "come". I use the command in the field when...

Although it is a drag, I take my pups out every hour and use the command "hurry up" as Shags does. They learn from a behaviour becoming a habit. I also have a dog door to the outside which helps a lot. "We have a Brittany Spaniel who is extremely loving and smart. He is exactly four months old today...

I don't think anyone can definitely say whether it is a good idea or a bad idea. Sounds like you keep a close eye on your dog during the run. Personally I'd probably use the duct tape unless I saw it was causing harm.

Thank you Garrison. Yes, those JRTs take everything you've got . :) This is my 5th one. They are the most common dog in rescue centres. Very cute puppies, but not for an inexperienced dog trainer.
