Re: Other Hunting, are You Done.......

Life moves on. Spent almost 30 years breeding , training , hunting beagles with Dad. LOTS of rabbits back then. Then when he died I gave up on dogs . ... and started fostering kids and working at the jail. Was driving by a pointing breed field trial one day by accident and said , "Wow. I'd like to d...

Well of course , he manages to find ducks on somebody's small pond way up the road towards town. The duck ow...

Re: Quail in a travel cage overnight?

Hi, I have the opportunity to buy some full grown quail for training purposes and was curious about keeping them in a bird travel crate overnight (the type preserves use to release birds)? I'd have to drive about 2 hours round trip to get them and would use them the following morning for training, ...

AG, It's nice that you share your experience and expertise, but some of us also have our own experience and consider ourselves fairly successful trainers. I googled Craigslist for your area in the Farm and Garden section for Pigeons. Numerous ads for homers with the lowest shown price of $10. Also found this ad, I would give this guy a call as I expect he sells the feral pigeons he traps. https://rockford.craigslist.org/grd/d/tea-free-pigeon-removal/...

Those are sharp tails in northern Montana. Over the course of the season we hunted blue grouse, ruffed grouse, sharp-tailed grouse, California quail, mountain quail, scaled quail, chukars, huns, pheasants, and assorted waterfowl in Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California, and New Mexico.
Thank you.

Introducing pup at 7+ weeks or so to different noises ( trucks, children having fun etc... ) is a good idea.
Introducing to any kind of gun fire sounds like a horror story. This should only be done in conjunction with bird activity, at a later age.

FYI A .22 has a sharper sound than a shot gun.

#1 crate only big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around in. so many possibilities:

I'd start with a vet check to make sure the dog is well.
Was he introduced to the gun in the wrong way?
Was an e collar used improperly?
There's a reason pup won't leave your side.

You are correct that neutering will certainly serve no purpose. If you haven't looked into bark collars, you should. First thing you have to do is quit going past your dog when you go to flush. As you walk up past him, it puts him into a help to flush mode. IDK why, just something dogs do. Instead, come in for the flush at more a 90* angle to the dog. That way, you're kind of blocking him, and also getting into h...
