Just a reminder to be careful when it comes to scams. I just lost $2000.00 to a "refund scam" I used someone for 2 years to fix my computer when necessary. I got an email saying I've paid too much , and they want to refund some money.... common scam I've learned ; I was stupid. Of course they needed...
I am no professional , but it has been my experience that every bird is different to a dog. A dog might be great on quail or woodcock, but then use that dog on pheasant and it's a whole different story. Learned this the hard way in trials.
The truth is that real dog people pretty much like all dogs, and if circumstances in our lives require it, we might change breeds but we like them just as much.
Absolutely - it is good for your soul, health and mind.
FLYNN.jpg And now for my confession: Because of Parkinson's Disease , I could no longer care for a gun dog - couldn't give it the exercise it needed. I saw a dog needing a home at Animal Alert - a Maltese. Not well ( heart problems and deaf), but I thought "Hey! I need a dog and I can handle...
1st, beagles 2nd, Jack Russells (for " go - to -ground " trials ) 3rd, 2 GSPs 4th , 2 setters... had one litter of 7 pups. All were sold before they were born. One (a runt) was unwanted by the guy so I kept the runt.... close to being an AF Ontario champion. Ran out of cash. Couldn't possibly say wh...
Moved the new thread together with this one so the topic stays the same: .............................................................. post by flatwoods man : The setter is about 4 years old.when she false points she has the same intensity as when she is on a bird; she does have a good nose. She do...
Killing rats all week. Our neighbour seldom puts out his garbage , and his place looks like a junk yard inside and out. As a result, he has many rats and we now have many rats at our bird feeder area. Managed to trap 3 so far and one or two more to go. Don't want any Spring babies. Saw a video about...
Welcome to the forum. You'll get good help here. Good intro and beautiful family . Let me know anytime I can help you with your use of the forum. (Living in Canada, the Freedom 2024 had me worried for a minute, until I saw it was about retiring. :) Freedom Convoy 2022 caused a lot of problems for Ca...
I know all the excellent posts previously posted assume you know this , but as a reminder it's all in the breeding. I told you all about wonderful setters BUT still it's all in the breeding when assuming characteristics of a breed .
Spoil it for him. He's having fun , but that behaviour won't serve you well when hunting . Be glad he has a desire to retrieve , but get on with the force fetch.
Welcome back!
I can only say that I've had 2 GSP and both were affectionate, had plenty of energy and endurance,
Not short haired, but my best dogs in your 3 categories were setters.
Merry Christmas to my friends here. Hope you have a good holiday and a happy time.
(I read today that only 4 % of the population is offended by the term "Merry Christmas"; I hope you aren't one of them.
Well said. As you said Birdman, I always took my dogs to places where socialization with different kinds of people , children , etc could happen. I believe that is essential. However , I waited as long as my vet advised to introduce my dog to other dogs... usually 14-15 weeks. If you walk your dog a...
Isn't that great!
I have wonderful memories of fishing and hunting with my Dad too. One day we were fishing for trout in a small stream ; I was maybe 7. He was having no luck. I walked down the stream and managed to scoop up a beautiful trout in my quart basket. He was not impressed. LOL
Hmmm Can't believe that that is a good idea. Dogs aren't stupid; they won't believe it is a real dog - no smell etc. Is there a dog club near you? Then you could train backing with another dog. https://nortonsafe.search.ask.com/web?omnisearch=yes&q=dog+clubs+in+New+mexico&annot=false&vendorConfigure...
I always hesitated to train off leash in the winter. Where we trained there were ponds - half frozen now- and I always
worried about my dog falling through the ice. If you have no ice, I see nothing wrong with training in the winter.
