Re: 5 month old GSP with biting problems

This behaviour is common in puppies , but now at 5 months you have a problem. Normally ,as a puppy the owner should stop that behaviour quickly with some painful grips to the mouth , just as Mom would do, and it would be over. However, now at 5 months you have to be the big bad guy. I don't want you...

I'd say the breeder kept him in a kennel and the dog did well in the fields , but that's all he saw. The breeder "never saw this " as the dog wasn't socialized . Socialization is vital for a pup from a kennel too. If it were me I'd give it the 30 days and then make my decision, or ....your decision ...

Unless the vet found some health problem, I can fully understand why your dog would lose a lot of weight. That is a LOT of exercise- lucky dog.
(See what weimdogman said- I'd go with twice a day.)

I've had car sickness for life. Dramamine puts me to sleep for 12 hours and I miss the whole trip. Annoying to hear it doesn't bother a dog at all. :)

I think it is car sickness same as many people get. Solution for people is to sit where they can see the horizon way off in front of the car. Raising his crate might help or let him sit in front with you . :) https://www.google.com/search?q=Puppy+drools+in+dog+box+during+transport&rlz=1C1CHBF_enCA81...

Not exactly what I said, but I hope it helped give you some insight. What I said: 1. Call verbally ONCE loud and firmly ONLY. 2 If he doesn't come, use stimulation at the level you've seen him normally respond to around the house- lifts his ears, turns his head etc.. 3 If he ignores that raise the s...

Oh, I hate to see you give up, but understand your frustration. If he were my dog, I would start over, assuming he doesn't know the "come " command. Long check cord, call come, he doesn't come, so I reel him in - then graduate to so e collar stimulation when you know he knows " come " - only ONCE at...

LOL Absolutely true isn't it? Covid affects everything. When pups get to be a year old , they are going to be wondering about strangers' faces with no masks. :) Keep following the good advice you've been given. Could be much worse; you could have a dog always hovers behind your back- I'm not kidding.

Re: Carded quail.....same quick flutter but don't lose the bird

The carding method is a traditional way of training, but not losing your birds. For reasons mentioned above it can be a bad idea. The real point , asked by the OP, is how do you train when you can't afford a hundred + birds ? Many folk don't live where there are an abundance of wild birds. I underst...

Listen to birddogger2 and Shags. I never let my dogs start out with birds by letting them catch them. Bad idea in my opinion. I initially used planted pigeons . ... $2 a bird here. They take off fast, the dog can't catch them , but it revs up the dog's enthusiasm for birds. Once the dog started to k...

Excellent post , but I personally would never make a decision to return a pup at 12 weeks , because I see behaviours I don't like. I'd want to give it some time - how long?- before I made that kind of decision.

Newer research ( ASPCA) does say you should leave pups with Mom and siblings for at least 8-10 weeks. Puts an extra cost to the breeder though so is not often done.
