Personally I wouldn't buy rollers for bird dog training. They fly up high, roll over and down pretty near to where they went up.

skunks

Well last night was one of those rolling eye nights. Just before I was going to bed , the dog went out for a last pee and a skunk chase. I should have checked the back yard first. It was a late night going to bed. Half way through the night my husband woke up and said "You smell like skunk!" ...

There isn't an absolute time limit. Always start by reading the first post/question. If it is 6 months ago, it is highly unlikely that OP is still looking for answers and may not even be here anymore as is the case in this thread. Not a big deal . Welcome to the forum. :)

Very well said. Yes , it is all in the breeding. I had a runt setter who did great in the American Field walking field trials. Bred from Uplander's Contessa and 5x CH Shady Hills Billy ( cover dog Championships). Can't assume a setter will hunt very close, as you said.

Well said Don. I'm in the same boat. I'm 75 and have my last dog now I think. If this one lives to 12 , I'd be 80 looking for a new dog; as I also have Parkinson's disease , it wouldn't be fair to a new dog. Getting old $%^&*(

If you read the link, the chances of a healthy dog aren't great , but it is entirely your decision. Having new owners spay/neuter their pups won't solve future problems as the above link describes. One also has to wonder about the integrity of selling that kind of pup. Something else to read: https:...

That's cold. Do you live in Alaska? :) Not all dogs will ever swim. I've yet to have a terrier that will willingly swim. I know you want your GSP to swim and return ducks , but maybe you need 2 dogs- a GSP for upland and a lab for ducks. :)
