Re: What breed of dog would you NEVER want to own?
I DO Want to apoligise for coming down hard on Pit Bulls. I have never owned one. I did however meet one once that truly was a very nice dog. As a responcable dog owner, I have to look at my personal situation and that I have a family. I dont believe Pit Bulls would be a smart choice. samoyedrule

Re: What breed of dog would you NEVER want to own?
With out question. My daughter as a baby would lay on my samoyed and drink her bottle and would fall asleep on her. The dog would not move and she herself would fall asleep. Samoyeds are known to be very very good with children. I will say that Malamutes, Siberians, Akitas, all of which are Spitz br...

Re: What breed of dog would you NEVER want to own?
Wow, strong opinions here. I can appreciate the people who want to defend the fighting breeds, they see the good they feel that these dogs have. Some of you have used the example of Labs or Lab mixes or other traditionally non agressive breds biting people. Lets remember they are Dogs, they are goin...

Re: What breed of dog would you NEVER want to own?
Not to be starting a Pit Bull bashing , what concerns me with them is they are extremely unpredictable. Here in Michigan there have been way to many stories of what was once a great pit bull turn on a child or someone walking passed a house. I will agree that mosy people that own them have no idea w...

Hello all, I havent been on here in awhile. I was looking at some of the posts and they have been very interesting. I have a year old English Setter male. He has recently taken an interest in birds. When he sees them he goes over to a certain distance away, and breaks into a point. He clearly isnt h...

Re: Setters and water
It was accidental the water thing. I was taking advise i had gotten on this forum to take him out on walks in a field that had birds, well it was more woods than a field. We came upon this small lake, and he really wanted to go to it. So i let him investigate, and the next thing i know he is running...

Setters and water
My three month old setter pup seems to love water. When i turn the sprinkler on at night, he goes diving in loving every minute of it. Is it common for Setters to love water like that? I have taken him to small lakes in my area, and he has no fear of that either.

Re: getting an english setter puppy started
The one thing i am getting from everybody is patience , patience, patience. I certainly do not want to rush things, or the fact that i am a beginner, ruin a good pup. i live in the suberbs, but have access to fields and woods, which is good. This pup has a ways to go even on his obedience, and houst...

Re: getting an english setter puppy started
When i take him on walks in the field or on trails, should i keep him on a close leash, or should i put him on one a little longer to let him explore a little? He is still a very young pup , so letting him off the leash is not an option i have. You guys are great, thanks for helping out a beginner. ...

Re: getting an english setter puppy started
Ray- What you recommend makes alot of sence. I guess i am just anctious to see what my pup will do. But i guess it is more important to establish the ground work, otherwise my efforts will be futile. His mom is a great hunter, dad not so much. While my pup and I get to know each other, i will learn a...

Re: getting an english setter puppy started
Thanks for the advise. I have rented a couple of books from the library that i will read from cover to cover. He is three months old now. He gets lots of time to be a pup which is what he really needs now. He has alot of things to learn, and alot of exploring his world.

getting an english setter puppy started
Hi, I would like to get started training my english setter puppy. I want to first start getting him interested. I have heard of a technique that you take a pheasant hackle and put it on the end of a string connected to a rod ( i have a practice flyrod that i am going to use) you take the rod and lan...
