Not much mention of South Dakota, where I have found birds on the usual spots like Ft. Pierre National Grasslands, but also look at waterfowl production areas that most upland hunters ignore. Not a lot of birds, but not a lot of hunters either.

Just curious, those who fear disease transmission from game birds ... they would be purchased from a game bird breeder who meets all requirements for managing NPIP and other pathogens, etc. So, what disease would a commercially-raised game bird be carrying?

Greg, people mourn in various ways. Some choose to honor the person during their lifetime, when it counts, for example. Others may not feel the need to parade their feelings in front of judgmental types as a sort of test of their loyalty, as another example.

It's plenty legal, in fact you can even train with your own game birds or those bought from others here in Oregon - I know, helped re-write the law on that one. And my pigeons are eight generations or more removed from racing stock but thanks for the warning about disease, guys.

Anyone have experience housing pigeons and quail or chukar in the same pen? Did you introduce the game birds as chicks?

The bigger question might be ... what have you done to stop the downward slide? When was the last time you took a newcomer hunting? Helped at a youth hunt? Have you joined a local conservation group or chapter of QF? And so on ... If every hunter took one newcomer per season, and a quarter of them b...
