Re: Breeding Shooting Dogs
The percentage of trial dogs bred by Robin or any other big time pro, that actually make real AA dogs is very slim. Most make 30 minute stake dogs or good gundogs, because a real All Age dog is very rare. Most of these dogs end up on a quail plantation. A breeder is lucky if he gets one from a litte...

Re: Breeding Shooting Dogs by Gordon Guy » Thu Apr 02, 2015 8:40 am I've heard it said, that the biggest and most important difference between a trial dog and a hunting dog is the owner. The owner (trialer or hunter) guides the pup through different processes depending on the goal. Now my 2 cents Th...

Re: How much do you feed?
I run horseback trials. I rode my dog three times a week an hour each time. Cover about 10 miles. Run them from horseback at least once a week for an hour. I feed Pro Plan Sport. I mx about a cup of cooking oil in the bucket of feed for all the dogs. Each dog gets from 7 to 10 cups each night. They ...

I feed about 4 cups Diamond Extreme Athlete, a raw egg, and a chicken leg quarter every evening. I run the trial dogs at least 15 miles a week and they look great and have good body condition and endurance.

Re: Purina pro plan performance
I have been feeding Diamond Extreme Athlete for years. Always had a problem with loose stools anytime you increased feed when working dogs hard. There for I feed twice a day during trial season to keep dogs up. Thought it was a good feed and dogs looked pretty good. Bought a puppy in the spring, he ...

Re: steadiness to wing and shot...the release...
I use two whistles when I run my dogs. The first is loud with a lower tone. Double blast means to come. The other is a higher pitch. I blow it once to release dogs after wing and shot. I also make my dogs stand when I first turn them loose and wait on the whistle for release. Once the dogs are train...

Re: diamond food
Been feeding the Extreme Athlete for a couple of years. Have to start feeding it slow, if they get to much at first, they have a very loose stool. During cold weather, I run my dogs about 4 times a week. I feed them half in the morning and half at night. If I give them it all in one feeding, they ge...

Re: Attitudes High Finance as a stud dog....?
I have a young male off Attitude's High Finance and a MIller/GuardRail female. He was a little slow coming on from the start, but at 11 months old he really started to click. He is as good as I have ever seen at a year old. Going to run him next month in an open puppy stake. He has alot of go, but l...

Re: United Bird Hunters
The UBH are having trials and doing well. I have ran in a couple and had a real good time. I even took their judging course and judged a trial back in Dec. We are having a trail in northeast FL in Feb. Like any new organization, they are having growing pains, but I think it is going to do well. The ...

Re: Spaying the older female
I had my nine year old female spayed last fall. I never could get her back like she used to be. She had a blood issue for several months, would not gain weight. When things started to get better, she developed cancer. They say this is common with an older dog, when her hormones have been altered by ...

Re: Sitting on "WHOA"
Put the shock collar around the dogs waist. Make sure it is on a low setting and use the nick mode. A lot of dogs will sit when they are being trained to whoa. The stimulation with the collar around the waist will help prevent this.

With all this said about Snakefoot, Guardrail and others, anyone of us can only dream of having a dog in our kennels that has made the contribution to the breed that they have.

Always wanted to go to Kansas, Oklahoma, or Texas. Have heard about finding 20-25 coveys of birds a day. That would be a real day of hunting.
Good Lord willing, I am going one day.

Safeguard goat wormer will work. Give 1 cc per 5 lbs. The horse wormer will work, but it takes about 1/2 a tube per dog to get the recommended mg. per lb.

Valbazon will work for giardia. Give 1 cc per 10 lb. Give it two days in a row. Repeat 3 days later. It also will take care of tapeworms. There are several articles about it on the web.

Came across an add in the Field for Night Hawk. (Blackhawk X Elhew Katie Lee) I had never seen anything on him before. I looked up his wins on AFTCA. He has won several times. I was just curious why I had never heard or seen anything on him or any pups of him.

I am looking for a well bred, fairly big running male to breed to. Looking for someone in the South Ga, North Fl area. Would like to split the litter for stud fee. The female is out of Elhew Discovery and Elhew Winning Colors. They are both out of Elhew Snakefoot. She was bred at Autumn Memory Kenne...

I have a female with giardia. I have started treating her with Safe Guard wormer and she is doing better. Did some research on the net and found out that Valbazen cow wormer will also work for giardia, in fact they say it works faster and does a better job. I have used it on my cows for years and us...

I am not sure if I want to chance a $1500.00 stud fee with her at this age. I like the Elhew Sinbad Dog, but not quite sure about his breeding. When I lost the last li...

Dont seem to be generating much interest with this breeding. Would this breeding do better with another stud other than Elhew McDougal. I have considered Elhew Fibber Mcgee. Anyone have any suggestions. I would like to stay in the Elhew line.

I have a female out of Ch Elhew Cassidy and a daughter of Elhew Snakefoot. She is a medium hunter, natural retriever, super classy with a 12:00 tail. She hunts well ahead of a four wheeler but will adjust her range when you are on foot. She is the best I have ever hunted over. I tried to raise some ...
