Re: Question about Last Bullet
All Age gets thrown around rather loosely IMO. It’s so much more then range, so much more. But short answer is yes. A dog of AA breeding can do very well in the NSTRA game. My avatar was out of a 6xAA/SD Ch, he was a 5xNSTRA champion before he was killed at 5yrs old. Don’t get stuck on range, such a...

Re: 2nd Hunting Dog to run with GSP
The obvious answer to me is shoot 1 bird at a time. 1 bird with each rise. That way if getting limits is your forte, get them over more dog work. What's funner; 10 birds over 3 points or 10 birds over 10 points?

I have had Weims since 1996. Sounds like you are doing ok with him. All dogs are different. Keep it fun. They are super smart and can challenge you every step of the way sometimes. Re: Difference between a 1hr vs 30 minute dog
The dogs gait has a lot to do with it as well. Some of your 30 minute dogs are a pleasure to sit back in the saddle and watch. But the way that dog has to go about his business to catch your eye, can't keep it up for longer then 30 minutes. Now this same dog could probably run for an hour or hunt fo...

My only question in all of this is if your dog is running twoards a road and a vehicle is coming why in the world would you tell the dog "whoa" instead of a "turn" command? i teach whoa but don't really use it for anything other than basic obedience such as stopping at a gate or door, or at the star...

I greatly doubt in a hunting situation on wild birds that a dog can hold birds at even 500 yds most of the time. There come's a point where the birds get up the stones to try and escape. I seriously doubt that a dog can smell birds at 100yds. I hear about that a lot, mostly at 50 yds, but I have ne...
