Re: Training to "Ground Tie"
I have a couple questions regarding this training method.
Is the stimulation a constant stimulation or is it momentary?
Can this method be used for teaching a horse to stand to mount, stand while mounted, and stopping?

Re: Hunt tests or trials
I'd say that if you want to say my dog is better than the rest out there than start FTing. It feels good that you have the "better" dog when you get that ribbon. But if you just want to do something when you are not hunting and want to prove your training than give the hunt tests a go. Both can be f...

It's all free running and hunting at their own speed in the country they'll be doing their job for years to come. The more I learn about dogs the more I like this statement. After getting into trialing and watching many dogs from different parts of the west I am seeing different performances. I am ...

Pick up any issue of the field and you will see a LOT of winners out of Blackhawk. I thought that last year this dog was a Derby? If that is so how is it that he is already siring CH dogs when they are mostly still to young? Ross didnt you breed Sara to him when he was still a derby? Those pups are...

Re: FF on the ground
My understanding of FF is that you should have complete compliance from the dog sent to any object, without assistance, you set at the end of the table including birds before you take the dog to the ground. I also understand that many trainers will start the process with the toe hitch than change to...

Re: Hunting with Puppies
I'm in the same boat as Doug. This is the best time to just let the pup develop on its own. I had good success with my pups by knowing where I could take the pup and put them into birds as soon as possible so each time the pup was successful in finding birds. It doesnt take long before they start do...

Hold on folks! There's a HUGE difference between demanding a dog stay with a pro and asking the amateur to be nothing more than the check writer. In some cases the pro owns the dog. He may have developed it as a pup or he may have bought/traded/been given the dog from a client. He believes that the...

I dont know of that guy but if your looking for a trainer fairly close to you there is Dan Hoke ( http://www.dunfur.com ) and RJ Marquart ( http://www.quicksilverkennels.com ) up in Washington. Both are very successful and respected trainers.

wait till his foot is dry and he isnt licking it anymore than apply the betadine or apply it but wrap the dogs foot in vet-wrap. My dogs usually only lick their pads for a day or two. IMHO if you just put the dog up for a week his feet will dry and the pad will heal itself in a few days. If you are ...

By 10 months old I would think that the skeletal development has reached its peak. Sled dog people start their young dogs pulling at younger ages than 10 months. Mostly light duty but I am sure they take into consideration everything necessary. I would be willing to bet that as long as Matt kept a c...
