Ducks in Lincoln, NE

Hello,

I'm heading to Lincoln, NE to visit the parents and do some training with a friend and turns out we're out of ducks. I was hoping to get some duck search training in.

If anybody has a connection to land a handful of ducks could you please PM me? I'd need to pick up on Friday.

Thank you.

Re: NAVHDA for a pointer?

Go check it out and meet some folks. Just because you go to the training days, train on the weekends with the chapter, etc. doesn't mean you have to run UT. But just to clarify, the only "blind" retrieve in NAVHDA is at the Invite. At the UT test, I assume you're talking about the duck search, and I...

Re: SUV big enough? Seeking advice!

I have an 03 4Runner, two kids, two dogs and a wife. I have the largest Thule cargo box for the top when I need the extra room, and I'm sure will pick up a hitch rack sometime soon. Check Craigslist for the cargo boxes, but they can go quickly. Depending on where you are, REI has a big sale once a y...

Re: Female House Dog Coming into Heat?

Don't buy the pads that are at PetCo. They're too small and overly expensive.

Get the denim drawers at PetCo then hit Walgreens and just get some standard women's pads. They do a much, much better job.

The birds are probably having a heart attack, for lack of a better description. Not uncommon at all.

AKC Kennel Registration Requirements

The other day I was looking online to see if a friend's dad's kennel name was still active with the AKC. I figured they'd have an online listing of active kennel names. Perhaps they do, but I couldn't find it. What I did find, however, was the AKC's stipulations for getting a kennel name. I've inclu...

Re: training pictures from Colorado

depending on when you're moving back to IA you may be able to hit the RM NAVHDA test and get her a NA score. The Heartland chapter's test is also in early May if you're already back home.

Check FieldTrialNews.com for a quick snapshot on the hunt tests in the area.

Re: Choosing a pointing breed...

Get a pointer or shorthair. The odds will be more in your favor based on your shedding requirements. I'd look for one with multipled titled dogs behind it. Sounds like in your case, I'd look for MHs or Navhda dogs with UTI, UTII or VC titles. FC/AFC dogs may work too, but go see some dogs and find o...

I don't think you're setting a terribly high water mark for yourself right here as far as testing goes.

I'd also put a dog that hunts real birds on your list.

I saw Karl as the sire of a dog being bred on the site. I don't want to hijack that thread, so can those of you who've seen him run and or hunt drop me a PM? If you've noticed any kind of traits he's throwing regularly I'd be interested in that as well. Please PM me, and if you'd rather discuss on t...

ecollar help tone help...rather unique

When my wife and I moved into our house our Vizsla, who was about 2 at the time, kept setting off the motion detector on the burglar alarm. We had a sensor that was supposed to account for dogs up to 100 lbs and had the tech out several times to stop it from going off. We were told he was moving too...

I shoot and favor the Golden Phez. I find them at Gander Mtn without much problem, however I'm not looking forward to seeing how much they may run this year.

Re: NAVHDA test question

Toss a duck or pigeon with its primary flight feathers pulled into the water. Let your dog watch you do this. The duck moreso obviously, but the pigeon to for a bit, will swim and flap and try and get away from your dog. This will usually bring the dog's prey drive out and that will overpower any he...

Re: Final coop questions......

I don't know that I'll describe this well, but let me give it a shot. Re: flooring - Build a wire floor with a wood sub-floor. About two inches between the two. Leave an opening/slat the length of one side of your coop that you scan slide newspaper or cardboard in and out of. This way your birds can...
