I had a female out of Bozeann's Mosley. Had a lot of natural ability. A lot of point and would back from a mile away. Not much on retrieving. Ran big and hard hunter. Won Derby of the year with her back in the day in SC. Had a bad cickle tail but that probably came from the Tomoko on the bottom side...

Now a days it takes 3 or 4 years to get an experienced dog so if you don't want to be without a dog getting a second dog is always a good idea. I usually like to have a young dog coming along with about 4 or 5 years difference in age if I only have two. I have six right now which is too many.

If you don't know how to introduce a dog to birds you probably dont know alot about training dogs.
Buy George Hickocks DVD set and learn about all phases of birddog training.

Went to the Southern SXS Show in Sandford, NC this weekend. Great event. If you have never been it is a great show. Hundreds of people were shooting their sxs's. Got to see alot of sxs's.

I have tried most of the pants out there. I like lined fleece hunting pants the best. Even the best cordova faced pants will let briars through, but if they are lined you never feel them. If you just wants some good knock around lite hunting pants the 100% cordova pants for about $100 are ok.

Best birdhunting boots are ll bean Maine boots. Good training boots too. Some guides like the insulated green browning boots. But the don't last them but about two years at most.

If you are looking for some light weight pants Cabelas has some all cordoba green pants that are good for training, but they don't handle briars to well. Most light weight pants will not. My best pants to block briars are the Cabelas boar hide that are lined. Great pants for real birdhunters.

Go with the 20. I just got a new Stoeger sxs for $360 included tax. Good gun for the money but needs to be slicked up some due to metal'finishing. If you can do some minor buffing and cutting you can get a good cheap field gun Just Google licking up a stoeoger for instructions

As a stud dog Jack has been bred twice and had two litters of 9 pups. I birdhunt my dogs extensively
in SC so these dogs are not kennel dogs. Jack is producing dogs with alot of point, stamina, running and pointing style.

Before you put out a laucher with a bird in it make sure the dog is birdy by teasing him with pigeons. Let him mouth the pigeons and chase them down.
